After becoming a licensed occupational therapist, I will take continuing education courses to expand my knowledge and stay current with the most effective treatment interventions. While spending time on the surgical intensive care unit during my level II fieldwork, I have seen many patients with spinal cord injuries. One course I am interested in taking is “Spinal Cord Injury: Splinting”. This course will provide me with information on splinting options for resting positioning and function. For these patients, it is important to prevent contractures and spasticity as well as improve mobility. #SHUOT2024

April is Occupational Therapy Month! Did you know: · OTs work with people across the lifespan, from premature babies to end of life · OTs are the only profession who help people do what they need and want and to do using daily activities (occupations) · OTs consider “occupations” any activity pursued during one's life, including sleeping! · OTs utilize evidence-based research · OTs can be found in schools, hospitals, outpatient clinics, nursing homes, residential homes and supportive living centers · OTs can work as case managers, ergonomic consultants, orthotic consultants, life care planners, driving evaluators, and home modification consultants to name just a few · OT education is broad based and includes physical, psychosocial, and cognitive · OT profession has existed for over 100 years, originating in WW 1 This month we would like to celebrate all occupational therapists especially our fellow IARP members in the Northeast Chapter! The following brief video highlights the importance of OT to our Veterans. #OTMonth #IARP #Occupational Therapy https://lnkd.in/dSG6HUK

Since 2008, we've been pioneers in paediatric occupational therapy, serving children from birth to adolescence with innovative, practical approaches. Our team doesn't just work with children – we collaborate with entire support systems. We consult with parents, teachers, schools, and other health professionals to ensure our therapy transcends the clinic walls and makes a real difference in every aspect of a child's life. What sets us apart? 🚀 Individualised care: We create therapy plans for each child, addressing their specific goals and challenges. 🚀 Holistic approach: Our therapy extends beyond the clinic to homes and schools, ensuring comprehensive support. 🚀 Collaborative spirit: We work closely with families, educators, and other professionals to create a united front for each child's development. 🚀 Innovative techniques: We constantly evolve methods to provide the most effective, evidence-based therapy where possible. Become part of our movement. A movement that believes in the potential of every child, regardless of their disabilities or learning difficulties. It's about being the change-maker who turns "I can't" into "I can, and I will." Are you ready to redefine what's possible in occupational therapy? #GraceChildrensTherapy #OccupationalTherapy #PediatricTherapy #MakingADifference

I love this brief snippet "day in the life of an OT student" because it shows how even in a mental health setting, the OT/OT student is evaluating for patients' fall risk. A few of my thoughts: --OT is the only discipline that I know of that takes such a holistic approach to health and well-being --You can see some of the OT groups like pottery painting and tea and storytelling sound a lot like things now included in social prescribing! --Social prescribing is not just about prescribing socialization, it is also about prescribing occupations (meaningful activities) which directly impact health and well-being
Occupational therapy student DanaShay shares a glimpse into their day on placement at Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Thank you for letting us share! 🤩

By 2030, the population of older persons is projected to exceed the population of youth, globally. The demand for healthcare services is expected to increase based on this projection. A call to action for solutions to problems that impact the delivery and quality of care will be needed The following is an inspiring example of a solution to a problem that is focused on improving the quality of care and the experience of the resident. Access to Occupational Therapy services in nursing homes with the province of New Brunswick is a significant challenge. Wheelchair assignments is one area that is impacted by extended wait times. The WRAP program which was inspired by a pilot initiative from an Occupational Therapy during a waitlist crisis was launched as a solution to address this problem. A collaborative working group was formed with community partners, including organizations providing nursing home services to improve service delivery and wait times. https://hubs.la/Q02RSqDy0
