This week's FAQs Q: Hey JB, what's this Roll-A-Thon thing you keep posting about ? A: It's our biggest corporate fundraising event of the year. Q: Oh right, when and where is that then ? A: It's on Thursday 1st August at Sydney's Allianz Stadium. Q: And how long does it go for ? A: We start at 10am and roll for 4 hours until 2pm. Q: Amazing, how does it work ? A: Each team has a wheelchair that they have to propel around the stadium concourse on a tag-team basis. Each person can do a lap or two and then hand over to the next roller to do their laps. Q: Sounds great, and what happens when I'm not rolling ? A: You can enjoy the tunes at the DJ booth / dance floor, play some fun games with rollers from other firms, be amazed by our roving magician and soak up the atmosphere with a drink and some food from the Merivale team. Q: Incredible, can we dress up and raise funds as well ? A: Absolutely, dressing up is positively encouraged and any fundraising is very, very welcome indeed. Q: Brilliant, one last question.. How do we win ? A: Win ? LOL, it's a fundraiser.. But yeah, course you can win. Today is the day. 🥊 Six months ago, I started on a journey to help raise funds for a charity is doing tremendous work and changing lives for the better. I agreed to get comfortable with the uncomfortable by doing something I had never done before – something I had never imagined doing - participating in a live, fully sanctioned boxing event. I must admit, with only a few hours until the bell rings, I’m still feeling a little uncomfortable. I mean, my opponent I will be alone in the ring, under bright lights, with almost 600 people (plus special guest announcer Sugar Ray Leonard. Yes, the Sugar Ray Leonard) cheering and screaming for us to hit harder, move quicker, go for the knock out shot. Not to mention – have you seen my opponent? But nerves and a little discomfort can be a powerful motivator. When speaking in front of an audience or prepping for a media interview, I always tell myself and/or spokespeople “if you don’t have some butterflies, you shouldn’t go out there. A little bit of nerves will keep you honest and focused.” And I am most definitely focused. I’ve been visualizing everything about tonight, preparing for any situation. What I’ve realized above all is that regardless how it goes, everything about this experience has exceeded my expectations. I had originally set three goals: 1.     Raise money for Pinball Foundation, a charity doing important work and making positive change. - I am so close to my stretch fundraising target of $15,000 (Donate here: https://lnkd.in/gE4gKKd5), if you add in ticket sales, it's more than $30,000 from my network. 2.     Get back in shape. - After 4 years of Covid-induced lethargy, including 2 surgeries, I needed something to force me into action. With training, I’ve lost 20 pounds and feel I’m in the best shape I've been in a very long time. 3.     Create memories. - #VictoryGala is an incredible event, and it was important to me that my family and friends were engaged and involved. My closest group of friends go back over 45 years, and we will be friends for at least another 45. Everything about this experience will be told and retold countless times in the coming decades. So, as far as I’m concerned, I’m already 3/3, having surpassed each goal I set. Whatever the outcome tonight, I know the young leaders in the Pinball Foundation programs are the real winners, but so am I, and so are all of the participants and everyone involved. A huge thank you to Kevin Mathiasz, MBA for enlisting me, to Mayron and the team at www.favelatc.com for the training, and to everyone at PCF for the work they put in to give back every single day. Importantly, thank you to my amazing family for putting up with the time commitment and constant discussions about boxing, and to everyone who has supported my effort with donations, words of encouragement, and moral support. Hopefully, this is a video of the very last time Tom has to deploy his para-anchor! 🪂 • We've mentioned it a few times, but the para-anchor is an underwater parachute on the end of a really really long line that's connected to the front of the boat. Tom can deploy this when the winds are against him and he's not able to make any progress. Once deployed the drag from the parachute turns the boat into the conditions, and drastically reduces how far he is pushed backwards, whilst he waits for the winds to stop. 💨 • He's had to use this quite a few times recently, but the weather forecasts are indicating that he may get winds going in (roughly) the right direction from tomorrow. 🌬️ • If you check his tracker (download the YB Races app and search Mindoarmatter if you haven't already!) you'll see that the ETA is late on the 20th August, to early on the 21st August - and with the upcoming weather forecasts taken into account that's actually about right at this stage. So if you're planning on coming to Penzance to welcome him in, that's the kind of time we think he may make it in. 👍 • HOWEVER - one puff of wind in the wrong direction, even a day before landing, will change this, ocean rowing is nothing if not unpredictable, and that is true right up to the landing! 😬 • A huge boost to the fundraising has seen over £1,200 raised in just 24 hours! This brings us to £44,767 - £233 short of £45k, which is 90% of the target! Another weekend of WSL action wrapped, and another new milestone at Fantasy WSL HQ with the app hitting 5,000 requests per minute at its peak! 🔥 (We most likely have goals from Lauren James and Vivianne Miedema to thank for that 👏) But it wasn’t just the players making waves last week. Nikki Doucet, CEO of NewCo, the company taking over the WSL and Women’s Championship, spoke publicly about her ambitions for the league and what she’s prioritising for the growth of women’s football. It’s refreshing to hear her talk about women’s football as “a different and distinct product with a unique audience” - something with incredible growth potential and commercial viability. It’s time to use the momentum in the women’s game to create a model that will allow it to flourish. As Nikki says, “if you look at women’s sport over the last 50, 100 years, it has just been underfunded. It has been treated like a charity and expected charity returns.” We’ve built Fantasy WSL from the same philosophy. This weekend, I did something that felt completely out of my comfort zone—I stepped into the boxing ring for a white-collar boxing match. And let me tell you, it was a wild ride that packed a punch in more ways than one! 😅 A HUGEEE thank you to everyone who donated via my GoFundMe and raised over £1,245 for Greengate Trust & Yemaid! 💕 When I first signed up, it was all about raising money for a cause close to my heart. But as I got deeper into training, I realised that what I was gaining went far beyond the charity aspect. Pushing myself to do something I didn’t need to do—but wanted to—was a huge personal win. The feeling of empowerment that came from sticking to a training regime and getting to the end was great! There were moments in the ring where all the preparation I had done seemed to fly out the window. It was one of those moments where life reminds you that, no matter how ready you think you are, surprises can hit hard. The real lesson was that it’s not about avoiding those punches (because life will always throw some at you). It’s about how you adjust your stance, change your technique, and keep moving forward. One of the most rewarding parts of the entire experience was hearing my family cheering for me in the crowd. Knowing that I was showing them, firsthand, that stepping out of your comfort zone leads to growth in every area of life was an incredible feeling. In both boxing and life, preparation is important. But what’s even more crucial is the resilience to adapt when things don’t go as planned. There’s something so powerful in challenging yourself in all times of life regardless of the odds. (BTW the result was a draw and I LOVED every second of it!) #whitecollarfight

Our #ChipAwayAtCancer Golf Outing is just a few weeks away! On this #MemberMonday, we spotlight the event’s founder and co-chair Jeff Burgess. In 2020 Jeff, a new member of Chicago Associate Board of Ambassadors, organized a small golf outing as a COVID-safe activity for the group. The event grew rapidly over the years, raising funds and awareness for American Cancer Society and becoming ABOA program. Jeff is a Financial Planner for WestPoint Financial Group. When you think about your time on the ABOA, what are you most proud of? Well, this a no-brainer. I'm so proud of the growth of the golf outing. To know that an idea I had four years ago has turned into a $50k+ fundraiser that involves 150 people every year is a pretty astonishing thing. What is your favorite memory from being an ABOA member? It was probably Year 2 of the golf outing. I came home after a long day and was finally able to reflect on the achievement. We all worked so hard and the day was such a success, I'd be lying if I told you that I didn't shed a few tears of joy that night. If you could have dinner with three living celebrities (together), who would they be? Dave Matthews, Conan O’Brien and JB Smoove What is your most used emoji? The one with the guy whose hand is over his face in embarrassment If you played baseball, what would your walk up song be? Big Pun- Still Not a Player (I just crush a lot) If you had to delete all but 3 apps from your smartphone, which ones would you keep?
