The SFBTA Research Awards are aimed at fostering the growth of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy by encouraging original research in solution-focused practices, and to support students, faculty, researchers, and clinicians who wish to study solution-focused practices. The 2024 SFBTA Research Awards will provide up to $1,500.00 to support ongoing or proposed project(s). Priority will be given to research that supports empirical evidence of SFBT practices, mechanisms of change, meta-analyses on SFBT interventions, or other research which could directly or indirectly investigate the effectiveness of SFBT practices. Call for Manuscripts: Themed Issue in Journal of Clinical and Translational Science on Institutional Transformation to Support Community Based Participatory Research and Patient- and Community -Engaged Research 🗓️ Submissions due by June 30, 2024. The areas of particular interest for this thematic include but are not limited to: ✅ Development and use of quantitative or qualitative tools/metrics to evaluate institutional contexts and/or evidence of transformation. ✅ Documentation of contextual barriers and facilitators to institutional transformation for community and patient empowerment to participate in and/or lead research. ✅ Original research and case studies that evaluate interventions or strategies to inform generalizable methods that can transform Academic Health Center Research Infrastructures, policies, norms, and practices. ✅ Community perspectives on their own research capacity and roles for research decision-making when working with academic health centers or other research institutes. ✅ Other comparable ideas CCPH Deputy Director, Paige Castro-Reyes will be a guest editor on this themed issue. Why is NIH implementing the new Simplified Review Framework? One reason is to make the job easier for reviewers by shifting some administrative assessments over to NIH staff, so that the reviewers can focus on assessing scientific and technical merit. Another reason is to reduce reputational bias by asking reviewers to focus on the expertise and resources required for the research, rather than the overall reputation of the PI and/or their institution.  Another reason is to streamline the review process so that reviewers aren't answering a bunch of yes/no prompts but are thinking more broadly about the importance of the research, its rigor and feasibility, and the expertise and resources required to accomplish the project. Join in for the October Journal Club on the 24th! This month, we'll review a study entitled: "The duration of spontaneous active and pushing phases of labour among 75,243 US women when intervention is minimal: A prospective, observational cohort study." This presentation will review origins of labor duration science, related clinical management challenges that emerged based on this science, and new research that seeks to overcome these challenges. The Journal Club is a 1 hour meeting where a midwife-researcher will present a paper to the group – sharing about the methods and results for a great discussion. Grow your skills in research by asking questions about the process, learning how to read and interpret research papers, and gaining knowledge in statistical interpretation or limitations of research.
