Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s Post

The Michigan Green Schools program, housed within EGLE, empowers PreK-12 schools to become environmental stewards. Through the program, schools protect the environment, educate future generations, and engage with their communities in positive ecological practices. What started as an idea in the Hartland Consolidated School District in 2005 has grown into a statewide program, with 343 schools certified as Michigan Green Schools in the 2023-2024 school year. From Green to Emerald to Evergreen designations, schools across Michigan are taking meaningful steps toward sustainability.
