How are grassroots women leaders shaping gender and child-friendly villages? By shaping an ecosystem where girls and women have the resources, skills, opportunities and support systems to complete their education, to pursue livelihood opportunities, and to make informed choices about and access services around their health and wellbeing. This is the ethos driving 27 panchayats in the Fatehpur, Moradabad and Shravasti districts of Moradabad, where C3 has been bolstering the capacities of Mahila Pradhans to shape gender and child-friendly villages and ensure the localization of sustainable development goals (LSDGs), through gender-responsive governance. One impactful strategy that contributes to gender and child-friendly villages, is ensuring that young girls who are excelling in academics become aspirational role models for not just their peers, for their community as a whole – demonstrating how education can become a key step towards equity and progress. To celebrate such academic excellence, ‘Kishori Diwas’ was celebrated across Moradabad, where over 600 girls who excelled in their 10th and 12th standard board exams were felicitated by Mahila Pradhans of their respective panchayats, in the presence of district officials. While district officials further encouraged these young girls’ academic journeys by providing career guidance, study tips, and health advice (particularly around menstrual health and nutrition) at the celebration, this occasion also proved to be a key step towards shifting parental attitudes towards girls’ education. By celebrating the achievements and future success of these young girls, women leaders at the Panchayat level are fostering a supportive environment where every girl, every woman can thrive, paving the way for more gender-inclusive and equitable villages. #panchayat #panchayatleaders #womenleaders #childfriendlyvillage #genderfriendlyvillage #girlseducation #uttarpradesh #genderresponsivegovernance

Empowering women through skill development, the schemes "Seekho Aur Kamao," "USTTAD," and "Nai Manzil" by the Ministry Of Minority Affairs aim to uplift minority and underprivileged communities across India. "Seekho Aur Kamao" focuses on upgrading skills in various trades to enhance job prospects and promote self-employment among minority youth. "USTTAD" works to preserve and promote traditional arts and crafts, providing artisans with training and market linkages. "Nai Manzil" offers formal education and skill training to school dropouts, helping them secure employment or become self-employed. These schemes are crucial for economic development, social inclusion, and cultural preservation. They not only equip minority communities with essential skills but also promote social equity and preserve cultural heritage. How can we enhance the reach of these schemes to maximize their impact? What additional support mechanisms are needed to sustain their benefits? #InspirationalFriday Sagarika started her organization ‘Maan ki Umeed’ with an aim to address issues of social inequality faced by underprivileged youth. “I decided to come up with an organization focusing on 4 E's and 1 S, which are Education, Empowerment, Employment, and Service. We aim to employ the untapped potential of the youth of our country in order to help people achieve these four aspects”, she explained. The team of 50 works to create an impact in various sectors of society through their multiple projects revolving around gender equality, menstrual hygiene management, environment, and education. One such project called “Swacchata ki Umeed” attempted to combat the prevalent river pollution in the famous Brahmaputra in Assam. Flood Doesn’t Stop Menstruation” was a project through which they went on to create dual awareness about the severe floods that ravaged Assam and the consequent menstruation-related problems it caused for the people who menstruate. They went on to collaborate with other organizations and go on menstruation drives wherein they reached out to the government schools' students and explained the importance of menstrual hygiene and talked about the taboos relating menstruation. They even reached out to underprivileged women and donated about 15000 pads. To tackle the scarcity of food and clothes created by the pandemic, amongst the underprivileged in their community, the team led ‘Project Aahar’. Through this project, they were able to reach out to about 3500 families from 5 districts of Assam. She would also like to create specific initiatives that focus solely on the North-eastern diaspora and the unique challenges faced by them. #LetsTagOn #GetTaggedtoaCause #servicelearning #inspirational #motivational #people #communityhelpers #YoungChangemakers

According to Statista, 69.1% of Indian women are literate, which is a 10 percent increase from 2011, which was at 59.29%. Aware of the vital role women play in the development of the country and society, and the importance of their education, the Government of India has introduced the Gender Inclusion Fund as a part of the National Education Policy (NEP), to provide access to vocational training, basic infrastructure like sanitation and toilets, and implement community – specific interventions to reduce the barriers that prevent their access to education. The goal is to diminish the gender gap in education and empower girl children. Following the same path, #InfosysFoundation has introduced various initiatives to educate girls and women in India, in partnership with Avanti Fellows, CITTA Education Foundation India, Ramakrishna Mission, and Go Sports. #InfosysCSR | #WomenEmpowerment | #STEMEducation | #DigitalSkills

According to the 2023 United Nations Secretary-General Report on Cooperatives in Social Development, cooperatives have consistently promoted economic and social development, especially for marginalized groups. At SEWA Bharat, we encourage informal economy women workers to collectivize as this proves beneficial to their livelihoods in numerous ways. From increasing their access to markets and finance to forging a path towards formal employment, the collective strength of cooperatives and other forms of collective enterprises have been instrumental in driving inclusive and sustainable growth. On this International Day of Cooperatives, we celebrate this year’s theme "Cooperatives Build a Better Future for All," by acknowledging the contributions of cooperatives and the critical role they play in uplifting women workers.
