As Hurricane Ernesto heads toward Bermuda, our Event Response Team is actively monitoring the storm to best estimate the financial impact and offer insights into what drove the losses. Estimating the financial impact to the insurance industry during the hurricane season is one of our highest priorities as informed decisions are needed at a moments notice. A recent AM Best article explores the barrage of loss estimates issued by a range of modelers, brokers and reinsurers in the face of catastrophic hurricane events. A comparison of selected storms in recent years shows that estimates vary significantly between the competition and can even fall short. Highlighted in the article is CoreLogic’s wind loss estimate for Hurricane Ian of between $22 billion and $32 billion of insured losses, released just one week after landfall. The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation had the actual loss at $21.4 billion. Jon Schneyer, Director of Catastrophe Response explains how we were able to capture the effectiveness of building codes, showcasing that "CoreLogic is in a unique position to have a complete and comprehensive residential property database that includes building characteristics such as year built, roof age, or roof type that are relevant to hurricane wind vulnerabilities.” Subscribers can read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eYcHTnaV

I’m proud to have helped over 200 people start their own multi-line insurance agency. I am now retired and living the beach life in NC. I still do some part-time consulting and teaching; contact me if you need help.
The “official” Hurricane Season begins June 1. Here are some tips on how to prepare. Also, to make your potential claims easier to process, I suggest that you do the following: 1. Talk to your Homeowner Agent about flood insurance. Flood is NOT covered in your Homeowner Policy and many Hurricanes bring a storm surge that could cause serious damage. And don’t think that if your house isn’t on the ocean that you’re safe. Almost as much damage will be done by water rising in rivers and creeks. Let your Agent help you assess the potential risk 2. Make sure that you’re carrying enough dwelling insurance. Most other coverages are based on the dwelling amount so even if your home isn’t totally destroyed, the interior damage could be above your coverage amount. 3. Take interior and exterior photos of your home. Stand in the middle of each room and take 4 photos, facing in each direction. Same with your home. All sides of the home should be photographed as well as pitches and decks. Store the photos on a thumb drive or in the Cloud. https://lnkd.in/edfhuPjg

Hurricane Ian's storm surge of at least 13.8 feet along Fort Myers Beach is the highest surge ever recorded in Southwest Florida over the past 150 years, and it caused massive flooding damage, washing away entire buildings. Water can be one of the most destructive forces of a hurricane, whether it’s rain entering the home through a hole in the roof, a blown-in front door, or several feet of storm surge flooding it. It is crucial to know if you live in a flood zone and to get flood insurance coverage if you do. It is crucial to document water damage, irrespective of whether you hold a separate flood insurance policy within your homeowner's insurance coverage. This documentation is essential because, in instances where heavy rainfall coincides with strong winds, structural damage to your home can lead to secondary flooding, categorically falling under the umbrella of windstorm damage. The additional threat of storm surges introduces the possibility of flooding that may not be encompassed by your insurance policy. When initiating a hurricane insurance claim, providing comprehensive and detailed descriptions of the damages, accompanied by photographs, can streamline and expedite the intricate and potentially stressful claims process. 🌀🏠 Understanding Hurricane Watch vs. Warning 🏠🌀 Hurricanes are some of the most formidable forces of nature, capable of unleashing devastating winds exceeding 150-170 mph. As they make landfall, they pose significant threats to life and property. That's why early hurricane preparedness is key to safeguarding your family, home, property, and business. Here's a breakdown of the difference between a hurricane watch and warning: 🔍 Hurricane Watch: Issued when conditions are favorable for the development of hurricane-force winds within a specified area. This is the time to stay informed, review your emergency plan, and prepare your home and belongings. ⚠️ Hurricane Warning: Issued when hurricane-force winds are expected to impact a specified area within 36 hours. This is a critical time to take action and implement your emergency plan immediately. Secure outdoor items, evacuate if necessary, and ensure you have essential supplies on hand. Stay tuned for more hurricane safety tips and guidance to help you and your loved ones stay safe and prepared during hurricane season. #HurricanePreparedness #SafetyTips #StayInformed #FRMGroupInsurance 🌀🏠🛑 FRM Group Insurance and Financial Services 📞 Stroudsburg 570-421-7447 1286 N 9th St, Stroudsburg, PA 18360 📞 Lehighton 610-377-4382 445 Coal St, Lehighton, PA 18235 🌐 www.frminsurancegroup.com Carriers: Foremost, Penn National Insurance, Progressive, Plymouth Rock Assurance, Acuity Insurance, Hagerty, JC Taylor Insurance, National General; an Allstate Company, Bristol; a Farmers Insurance Company Licensed in Pennsylvania, Alabama, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas #ThinkFraileyFirst #FRMGroup #Insurance #PoconoProud #PoconoMtns #PoconoChamber #FraileyCoversYourHome #FraileyHablamosEspanol #WeProtectWhatMattersMost
