E-Government Services: Developing user-friendly e-government platforms can make services more accessible to citizens, reducing bureaucracy and enhancing efficiency. 4. Cybersecurity Measures: Prioritizing cybersecurity is crucial to safeguarding digital infrastructure and citizen data. Pakistan should invest in advanced cybersecurity measures and regulations. 5. Digital Literacy: Promoting digital literacy programs to ensure that citizens, especially in rural areas, have the skills to fully utilize digital services. 6. Public-Private Partnerships: Collaborating with private sector entities can accelerate innovation and improve the quality of digital services. 7. Mobile Connectivity: Expanding mobile connectivity and internet access across the country to ensure all citizens can benefit from digital services. 8. Blockchain Technology: Exploring the potential of blockchain technology for secure and transparent transactions, especially in areas like land registration and supply chain management. 9. Open Data Policies: Implementing open data policies can encourage innovation and entrepreneurship by making government data accessible to the public. 10. International Collaboration: Seeking guidance and collaboration with countries like Estonia and international organizations can provide valuable insights and best practices for digital transformation.

We are very proud of our involvement in the Doing Business in Chicago : Ireland Network Chicago Women's Forum. When our business started an export focused journey two years ago, we noticed the difficulties in leveraging support within the Irish framework, and the mountains that needed to be climbed in the US. Marketing, networking, legal, taxation, banking, patents, distribution etc all made for a challenging landscape. How to engage, speak and present are different there. The information necessary to progress is typically siloed into each respective profession. Access is there, but missteps are costly. Both in terms of time and money. The order in which a company is set up, if done incorrectly, can have serious ramifications. The Forum is the answer for businesses with their eye on the prize. There is a good support system in the Ireland Network Chicago. When we discussed the concept with them in 2022, they embraced it; asking us to be on the committee for this premium event in their 2024 calendar. Aligning with their mission statement, as relevant now as when it was written 21 years ago, the INC network have and continue to support Irish business. We are delighted to support them in delivering an exciting business development opportunity to shorten the lead time for other Irish businesses to get US ready. Today, a week out and are proud to be bringing our Forum event pull ups, designed and produced in house, to Chicago tomorrow for a 10 day business trip. In addition to the Women's Forum, Chicago hosts the famous Saint Patrick's Day celebration. March is National Irish-American Heritage Month. In a recent proclamation by President Joe Biden, this month long celebration recognises the contribution and value of the Irish and Irish-Americans in the US. Well, we are amazing 😊💚 The export journey for our 57 year old family business is still evolving, looking for opportunities and market openings. Why is Denmark such a (relatively) successful society? When having international visitors, this is a question I often get. And when I came across this article from The Guardian, I just had to share it (there are few things Danish people love more than Denmark being brought up in international media). We’re far from perfect, but one critical element that stands out in Denmark and our Nordic cousins is trust—societal trust, to be precise. 💡 One key insight from article is that nearly 74%* of Danes believe “most people can be trusted,” more than any other nationality. Part of this story is the visionary ideas behind "folk bildung" a concept promoting continuous education and democratic participation. This cultural fabric supports our welfare system, which was envisioned to create mutual trust and equality. Trust is hard to gain and easy to lose, but it's the glue that holds our society together. But how will this look in the futures? This trust isn’t just about feeling safe leaving bikes and babies unattended outside café; it translates into economic and social benefits, reducing costs for security and fostering easier business transactions. ❗ But trust is under threat. Misinformation and disinformation, a widening urban-rural divide, and political pressures challenge our social cohesion. We must actively nurture trust by showing empathy to those different from us and extending trust without expecting anything in return. What’s the takeaway? Not necessarily everyone's idea of a treat (I do this so you don't have to!), but today I took a day off to attend the Creative Bureaucracy/Bristol Ideas workshop at the Watershed Centre in Bristol. It was such an inspiring day, exploring how we might make public administrations function better, how we improve their 'inner life' so that officers and politicians can give their best, and how we can make these public organisations relate better to the outside world: opening up participation and decision-making to all who might want to get involved. Moving the answer from "no, because" to "yes, if", being braver, and rebuilding trust in councils and public servants. And with climate change as a stress multiplier, opening the doors wide to innovation and learning from each other so that we can adapt quickly and fairly across the world. Speakers from the UK and around the world shared their experiences of innovative ways of tackling public administration, including radical new: 💡roles - such as the Dutch Chief Heat Officers, reflecting the impact of climate change; the Night Mayor in Amsterdam; Wales's Future Generations Commissioner, a role which has had transformational impact in the Senedd 💡organisations - such as UAE's Ministry of Possibilities, Bologna's Civic Imagination Office, the EU's proposed Citizen's Assembly 💡programmes - the Swedish housing board which celebrates the learnings through failure with its Failure of the Year Award; ideas to bring to and retain talent in the public sector, such as Lithuania's tailored recruitment programme to tempt back those who have worked abroad; schemes from Brazil and Germany that enable sharing of successful innovation in public administration 💡processes - re-skilling councils in procurement, and weaning them off consultants; co-designing policies and processes with service users, in Manchester (homeless people and housing officers) Denmark (patients and clinicians) 💡networks & communities - such as the German Diplomats of Colour network There was masses more and I've come back with lots to think about, plus a notebook full of ideas to explore! It was an honour to address the National Economic and Social Council's 50th anniversary conference on the theme of 'A Thriving Ireland'. Objectively, comparatively, Ireland *is* thriving. (The country is ranked 8th in the world in the UN’s Human Development Index, we are the 5th freest country according to Freedom House, we have the 6th freest media according to Reporters Without Borders, and we’re the 10th least corrupt country according to Transparency International.) And, yet, it seemed brave for NESC Ireland to say so. It put its head above the parapet of negativity and naysaying that often weighs down Irish public opinion. But how are we to effectively manage the country if we have no idea how well we are doing? To effectively inform policy to improve national well-being we need to recognise what we are doing well just as much as acknowledging what more needs to be done.  Of course, Ireland has its challenges. And there is an inequality of well-being just as there is economic inequality. But sometimes we give this too much credence. In the most recent Eurobarometer survey, 96% of Irish people said that they were fairly or very satisfied with their lives – one of the very highest figures in Europe. Acknowledging our successes and understanding the factors that enabled them will empower us to build an even better future. 🏠 Status Quo: Laying the Foundation for Change First step of building a house is to take a look at the land we have, examine the properties of it, the size, the soil, and the surroundings. That's exactly what we are doing as the initial step on our road to changing our social policies; we are analyzing the current situation from many aspects. This is also crucial for our partners; they need to understand how our institutions, government, and funds work. Our method is based on sharing Good Practices, implementing ideas from partners, and finally improving the social policies of the partner regions. If we want to use ideas from any of those Good Practices, we have to be aware of the differences and similarities among our target groups, situations, and organizations. Can the government of the Romanian town Galati use the idea and methodology of the Danish town Aarhus? Would the differences in the organizational structure, funding affect the implementation? What do Budapest and Sofia have in common in their social systems, do they have similar target groups? That is what we are about to find out! The CITICESS partnership created a methodology for this Status Quo analysis, developed together with the feedback of the partners. This was led by our Irish partner, Ballyhoura. After everyone finishes their document, a comparative analysis will be prepared. The personal meeting in Budapest was a great opportunity to make it clear why it is important to make the analysis as clear as possible; that is how we can progress with our project. Meanwhile partners are also getting to know each others’ Good Practices, so that we can move on to the next steps: coming up with plans to implement Good Practices, test them in pilot projects if needed, and achieve policy improvements that actually make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable, multi-problem families. #citicess #interreg #interregeurope #statusquo
