The contract is meant to push durability and thermal management for all #F35 variants and was preferred over a complete replacement with an adaptive cycle solution (more effective but also more costly). 🔥Northrop Grumman has been selected to continue the development of its Glide Phase Interceptor, a new defense asset designed to take down #hypersonic weapons during the glide phase of the flight. Northrop won over the competitors RTX and Lockheed Martin. Also Europe is investing in this through two different proposals HYDEF and HYDIS, coordinated by Sistemas de Missiles de España and MBDA respectively. 🔥The Air Force Research Laboratory highlighted its Low-Cost Attritable Aircraft Platform Sharing (LCAAPS) programme at the Air and Space Force Association’s Air, Space and Cyber Conference. The goal is to develop multiple uncrewed aerial systems from a base platform, applying a modular, open system architecture. By maximizing commonality, it would be possible to streamline the design, simplify the supply chain and reduce costs. 🔥United States Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall said that the cost per unit of the Next-Generation Air Dominance (#NGAD) program must be reduced by more than two-thirds (less than the F-35 or the F-15EX). This should be made possible by transferring some mission capabilities and functions to the Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) program.

Aerojet Rocketdyne, an L3Harris Technologies company, has been awarded a $22 million Other Transaction Agreement (OTA) contract from the Department of Defense (DoD) Manufacturing Technology Program, through Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane, to develop a prototype solution for the Growing Additive Manufacturing Maturity for Airbreathing Hypersonics (GAMMA-H) challenge. The GAMMA-H program is part of the DoD’s ongoing efforts to expand current processes to manufacture hypersonic weapons components. According to the DoD, GAMMA-H will contribute toward advancing additive manufacturing processes that can affordably meet the propulsion performance and environmental requirements that modern hypersonic airbreathing systems demand. The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) has awarded Lockheed Martin Sikorsky a contract award to study integrated platform concepts that could fulfill NATO’s next generation rotorcraft requirements through its Next Generation Rotorcraft Capability (NGRC) program. “Sikorsky is ready to design a rotorcraft prototype for NATO’s NGRC concept study to support defense and deterrence for an ever-changing global environment. Years of investment and rigorous flight testing with multiple X2 technology demonstrators have proven its ability to change the future airspace,” said Andrew Adams, vice president of Sikorsky Future Vertical Lift. Lockheed Martin Sikorsky’s European Industry Group includes Tier-1 aerospace suppliers, such as BAE Systems, ELT Group, ESG Elektroniksystem-und Logistik GmbH, GE Aerospace, Hellenic Aerospace Industry, Kongsberg, Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg GmbH, MAGroup, Malloy Aeronautics, SAFRAN, Rheinmetall and TERMA.
