Have you ever talked with someone who genuinely loves what they do? Yesterday, on my flight home from Chicago, I sat next to a JetBlue pilot and got to learn a lot about flying. Getting to see his perspective on the career path of pilots, why pilots fly the way they do, etc. was insightful and just plain fun to hear. Did you know that most pilots only take over manual control on a landing at around 100-500 feet off the ground? Or that there are still a lot of propeller-based planes in operation in both cargo and regional air travel? Or that the Airbus A320 was the first plane to employ fly-by-wire tech and was first flown in the late 80s??!! We still fly thousands of these A320s today (and Airbus is struggling to fulfill orders for more). Anyways, if you have any other cool stories about meeting someone who's really passionate about what they do, share them in the comments.

As we all know, statistically flying is the safest mode of transportation, but some airports are more challenging than others. From sand runways to steep descents, these airports test the skills of even the most experienced pilots. Here are eight of the world's most challenging airports 👇 Despite the challenges, skilled aviators make these airports work. 💪✈️ Remember, flying remains one of the safest ways to travel, with odds of a major accident as low as one in six million flights! #AviationAdventures #SafeTravels

Everything That Pilots Are Doing When An Airplane Is Taking Offhttps://lnkd.in/esPcN8U3 choreography behind an airline takeoff. BY JACK HERSTAM, Simple flying, 10/10/2023 During takeoff, there is an exchange of controls between the captain and first officer if the pilot who taxied the plane will not be flying. The captain is responsible for taking control during a rejected takeoff, if necessary. At a certain speed, the pilot monitoring calls out the transition to a high-speed regime, where the pilots are more focused on continuing the takeoff. The takeoff is one of the two most critical phases of flight—landing is equal in criticality. During every takeoff in a crewed environment, both pilots have responsibilities […]

“It all began on May 30, 2012, when I stepped onto a United Airlines Airbus A320 for the first time. At the time I was only four years old going to Disney World. That day I thought I was going to the happiest place on Earth, but I found my happiest place on Earth on that aircraft." Kobe Kerns, EAA 1225376, shares how he soared after his dream. 9moOne day, when I got stuck with my friends in the middle between two Italian cities, such a coincident meeting helped me to get through 5 hours of heat and fear of staying in the middle of the road until the next day. It is another story of what actually happened before, but in short, we lost the car key and waited for the tow truck (we hoped to reach the nearest city by the end of the day). Unfortunately, the Italians were not really happy about helping us on Saturday evening. Here, I met an older man who sold his homemade limoncello from his cute, self-made limoncello bus. It was not really crowded place, but during these 5 hours, people almost always stopped near the bus to try his drink. We decided to try as well...and he started to tell us a story about his hobby (actually, it is his business). He did not have good English (I think most of his speech was Italian), but I believe I understood his words. He told us a story about his limoncello and showed us this drink's different kinds of serves. The worst 5 hours of waiting became the best moment of the trip.
