This week's #digest includes a #study by OHTโs Dr. Srikanth Reddy on how #health status impacts #labor outcomes for middle-aged and older adults in India. #Illhealth impacts labor force participation globally, yet #age differences are often overlooked. The study addresses this gap by examining how ill health affects labor outcomes among different age groups in India. Data from over 72,000 individuals aged 45 and above from the Longitudinal #Ageing Study show that ill-health reduces labor participation by 28 percent for middle-aged and 36 percent for elderly individuals. The impact on #wages and hours worked varies by age, with elderly individuals being more affected. ๐ฃ Hot off the press!ย ย ย Inequitable coverage of evidence-based maternal, newborn, child health, and nutrition (MNCHN) interventions is particularly pronounced in low and middle-income countries where access and delivery of these interventions can vary dramatically at the subnational level. Through the Asset Tracker initiative, PATH conducted health system assessments in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, India, Kenya and Nigeria to explore progress toward the scale of 14 evidence-based #MNCHN interventions and to better understand bottlenecks, facilitators and uptake of the interventions.ย ย Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gzqjYVS3

Why lack of digital scales is weighing down #Nandurbar In one of #Maharashtra's poorest district, the weighing scales are crucial to assess #malnutrition in infants, pregnant #women and new mothers An impasse over procurement has meant that for around three years now, anganwadi workers, public health centres (PHCs) andย Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA workers)ย โ those in the frontlines of this battle โ have had their hands tied without the weighing scales that are crucial to assess malnutrition in infants, pregnant women and new mothers. https://lnkd.in/gify_HxH #challenges #India #healthcare #deaths #malnutrition #PHCs #ASHAworkers

Nepal has one of highest child mortality in the South East Asia region and most of the deaths are caused by preventable diseases. According to the 2022 Nepal Demographic and Health Survey, the under-5 child mortality 33 deaths per 1000 live births and 25% of under-5 were reported to be stunted (short height for their age). To help reduce child morbidity and mortality and improve the under-5 nutritional outcomes, the Nepal Nursing Social and Security Division (NSSD) partnered with Medic and other stakeholders to build and deploy a CHT-based app. Child health and nutritional workflows have been integrated into the app to support Community Health Nurses (CHNs) to provide community child health and nutritional services. Here is my detailed presentation on it https://lnkd.in/euDJ_Bkh

Embracing Failures and Celebrating Growth in Public Health ๐ Recently I have been reflecting on my journey in public health and program management has been filled with many failures that have shaped who I am today. In my early days in Mpumalanga, resource shortages led to missed opportunities in HIV care and community outreach, and language barriers. Coordinating TB efforts in Tshwane presented challenges with delayed interventions and community resistance, which strengthened my resolve and adaptability. Managing diverse teams and intricate health systems has taught me invaluable lessons. Some projects didn't meet their targets, and several initiatives required rethinking and restarting, driving home the need for innovation and persistence. My biggest struggle was securing funding for my studies ๐, but overcoming countless rejections fueled my determination. These experiences have equipped me with resilience, adaptability, and a proactive mindset. I'm committed to turning setbacks into stepping stones for future success. Let's embrace our failures and leverage them to drive positive change in global health. Together, we can create healthier futures ๐โค๏ธ. #PublicHealth #Resilience #Growth #GlobalHealth #WorkMilestone #LessonsLearned #ForwardThinking

Senior Advocacy Advisor | Expertise in lobbying, coalition building and strategic communications | I work with organizations to achieve policy change and influence the debate ๐
Community health workers play a crucial role in addressing #stunting and #Nutrition. How can we reach goals without them? But for this to work, the details really matter. Note this just published research from Indonesia. CHWs are the backbone of the response to stunting there, however: "incentives, training and recognition, are limited at best, and the income of CHWs relies on โgiftsโ from stakeholders, with various disbursement mechanisms according to local policies. Consequently, the recruitment of new CHWs has stagnated" Advocates for nutrition will have to take on these difficult issues in order to succeed. https://lnkd.in/e3hY6ena
