#3DPC2024 #Finalist "SHAP-ENV" SDU CREATE Led by Ass. Prof. Dr. Roberto Naboni Research Team: Roberto Naboni, Luca Breseghello, Ardeshir Talaei, Daniele Florenzano Industrial partners: Weber Saint Gobain Denmark, Hyperion Robotics DENMARK Inertial measurement units with a precision that enables navigation without external references have so far been large and complex systems. The sensor triad combines the possibilities of ceramic additive manufacturing with single-axis MEMS acceleration sensors and gyroscopes. These offer significantly higher precision than sensors with multiple axes on one die. The ceramic baseplate, sensor carrier and cover are stereolithographically printed from an aluminum oxide slurry and thermally processed accordingly. The metal and insulation layers are applied by screen printing and fired. The circuit is then assembled and sealed with the cover. The result is a compact system that enables navigation even in areas without external references. The ceramic housing makes it suitable for harsh environmental conditions and is resistant to chemical and mechanical influences. 🔜 Rapid.Tech 3D (14-16 May 24), Messe Erfurt, Germany 💡 Visit the 3DPC Finalists #exhibition 🏆 Keep fingers crossed, till 3DPC #awardceremony 15 May 2024, 3:30pm, booth 2.509! www.3dpc.io #wettbewerbe2024 #award #innovation #3d #advancedtechnologies #challenge2024 #am #mindset #CollaborativeMindset #disruptive #3ddruck #industry #pushingboundaries #3dprinting #competition #collaborative #additivemanufacturing

#3DPC2024 #Finalist "Vision-controlled jetting for composite systems and robots" ETH Zürich Thomas Buchner , Simon Rogler, Stefan Weirich, Yannick Armati, Barnabas Gavin Cangan, Javier Ramos, Scott T. Twiddy, Davide M. Marini, Aaron Weber, Desai Chen, Greg Ellson, Joshua Jacob, Walter Zengerle, Dmitriy Katalichenko, Chetan Keny, Wojciech Matusik, Robert Katzschmann SWITZERLAND Vision Controlled Jetting integrates machine vision into inkjet deposition. We thereby revolutionize the design-development process by overcoming material limitations and enabling scalable, high throughput rapid production of complex functional systems. By seamlessly adapting printing parameters in real-time, our technology overcomes conventional approaches that require mechanical planarizers that limit the material choices. Our technology´s broader material possibilities facilitate the creation of geometrically intricate multi-material constructs at a wide range of material stiffnesses that retain material parameters even after environmental exposure. This approach pushes the boundaries of design and manufacturing. We created a biomimetic hand that emphasizes the ability to create organic shapes, a pneumatic walker that is fully functional and does not need assembly, and another dimension to metamaterials, playing with material stiffnesses to customize material properties. 🔜 Rapid.Tech 3D (14-16 May 24), Messe Erfurt, Germany 💡 Visit the 3DPC Finalists #exhibition 🏆 Keep fingers crossed, till 3DPC #awardceremony 15 May 2024, 3:30pm, booth 2.509! www.3dpc.io #wettbewerbe2024 #award #innovation #3d #advancedtechnologies #challenge2024 #am #mindset #CollaborativeMindset #disruptive #3ddruck #industry #pushingboundaries #3dprinting #competition #collaborative #additivemanufacturing

It’s odd that this announcement by Katherine Bennett, boss of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, is unaccompanied by a big bold quote from the Welsh Government. Could it be that Welsh universities have raised eyebrows and voices at the idea of an English University running a facility funded by Welsh taxpayers. It’s unlikely that Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd and others will be delighted with the idea of a £1.5 million “hub” being run by The University of Sheffield AMRC right on their doorstep. Perhaps it is time for Wales to have its own, truly national manufacturing institute and for the HVMC to return to its pre-Cameron Coalition roots as a network of place-based, industry and demand-led R&D institutions…but this time funded by devolved administrations across the UK who task them with designing and delivering the advanced manufacturing elements of place-specific economic plans. This just might create the innovation capacity/capability based on identifiable regional manufacturing strengths that is needed to kick start the levelling up process. Something the current Whitehall, centrally controlled network has failed to achieve over the last decade. The challenges and opportunities facing Wales, which is critical to levelling up the wider UK economy, deserves a better response than this. If Glasgow/Scotland can have a brand new £100,000,000 National Manufacturing institute why should Cardiff feel “delighted” rather than cheated to be getting a £1.5 million “digital factory hub” run by an English University hundreds of miles away?
We're delighted to be collaborating with the Llywodraeth Cymru / Welsh Government on a new digital factory hub to advance manufacturing technology innovation and support Wales’ green industrial transformation. “This announcement, bringing the entire capability of HVM Catapult to South Wales, is a fantastic way to kick-start 2024." - Katherine Bennett CBE, HVM Catapult CEO HVM Catapult Baglan is a partnership between HVM Catapult, funded by the UK government, and the Welsh Government. The collaborative partnership site, at the Bay Technology Centre in Port Talbot, builds on the success of HVM Catapult’s centre in North Wales, AMRC Cymru. It will house state-of-the-art equipment provided by the Welsh Government, including a SMART workbench, robot station and the latest 3D printing technologies. Did you know that the voestalpine Foundry Group is the largest steel foundry group in Europe? 🤔 With our sites in Linz (Austria), Traisen (Austria) and a joint venture in China, we can produce castings in a weight range from a few kilograms up to 200 tons. This corresponds to a maximum liquid weight of 300 tons per casting, which (to get a better idea of this enormous number) is equivalent to the total weight of 50 adult African elephants. 💪 🐘 We also clearly stand out from our colleagues in the foundry industry when it comes to innovation and technology. In 2022, for example, we became the first steel foundry in Europe to launch the most modern 3D Sand Printing facility in Traisen. We are striving for operational excellence in all processes with technologies such as robotic welding and many other digitalization steps and can therefore offer our customers even more individual overall solutions. #voestalpine #FoundryGroup #3DSP #SandPrinting #Innovation #Digitalisation #Onestepahead
