🌞 Today, on National Indigenous Peoples Day, we honor the rich culture, heritage, and contributions of Indigenous communities across Canada. For generations, Indigenous groups have celebrated this day, coinciding with the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. This significant day, originally proclaimed as National Aboriginal Day in 1996 by then Governor General Roméo LeBlanc, has evolved through the years thanks to the tireless advocacy of Indigenous leaders and communities. From the Assembly of First Nations' call for a National Aboriginal Solidarity Day in 1982 to the renaming as National Indigenous Peoples Day in 2017, this day stands as a testament to the enduring strength and vibrant cultures of Indigenous Peoples. At Project Reconciliation, we are deeply committed to economic reconciliation, fostering meaningful Indigenous ownership and partnership in Canada's energy transition. Our mission aligns with the principles of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent, and we strive to uphold the TRC Calls to Action, ensuring that Indigenous voices are integral to shaping our collective future. 📚 We encourage everyone to take this opportunity to learn more about the histories, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples. Visit Government of Canada’s National Indigenous Peoples Day page to explore resources and discover how you can participate in community events and commemorations. Let’s celebrate together and commit to a path of reconciliation and mutual respect. 🌟 #NationalIndigenousPeoplesDay #EconomicReconciliation #ProjectReconciliation #IndigenousCulture #CelebrateCanada

On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we pause as a nation to recognize the immense suffering and injustices endured by Indigenous peoples in Canada. Today offers a moment to reflect on the painful history of residential schools, the loss of countless lives, and the lasting trauma still felt by survivors and their families. We pay tribute to the incredible resilience, strength, and wisdom of Indigenous communities who have carried this weight through generations. In this spirit, we renew our commitment to truth, justice, and genuine reconciliation. It's a reminder that we must actively listen, learn, and take meaningful steps to confront the systemic inequalities that persist. This day calls on all of us to help create a more just and equitable Canada—one that fully recognizes and respects Indigenous rights, cultures, and languages. As we reflect on the past, let us move forward with purpose, working toward a future shaped by understanding, compassion, and solidarity.

Truth and Reconciliation has to start with uncovering and internalizing the truth of the historical and ongoing experience of Indigenous Peoples here in Turtle Island. That means not only educating ourselves about the historical/ongoing injustices inflicted by colonial systems and racism, but also learning about and celebrating the ways Indigenous people are innovating, recovering culture and history, and making valuable contributions to our shared social fabric. Today, on National Indigenous People's Day, I encourage you to uncover and assimilate some truth so we can move together toward reconciliation. #NationalIndigenousPeoplesDay
