🏞The overlap of mining and heritage is a sensitive but recurring theme encountered across my project work at Kumi Consulting Ltd⚠ ❌ If 'no-go commitments' (the current industry best practice) do not reflect the reality of the sector, how can the interests of mining and heritage be reconciled, or are they ultimately a zero-sum game?🔍 💡To learn more, I invite you to read the first instalment of this two-part insight series, exploring how and why mining development occurs in natural and cultural heritage contexts, as well as some of the actions that downstream buyers can take to help manage social and environmental risks along their #supplychains✅ https://lnkd.in/ecvXFnwM #socialperformance #duediligence #riskmanagement #mining #metals

Since 2003, adopting a 'no-go commitment' has been industry best practice for any #mining company operating in a #heritage context. However, on the ground, the overlap between the sector and these sensitive areas continues to grow. In our first insight, we explore reasons for this and actions that help to address associated risks. 🏛️ What is 'heritage'? It includes cultural, natural and hybrid sites where preservation, conservation or restoration efforts are vital to communities' identity and the ecosystems on which their livelihoods rely. ⛰️ Why mine in heritage areas? Demand for materials, few viable deposits and strategic locations can drive mining interest. 🛠️ How can mining occur in protected areas? Legal avenues and creative loopholes in heritage protection laws facilitate the sector's access. 🌱 Minimising risks and their potential impacts: Protecting the unique and irreplaceable value of heritage requires proactive efforts from actors along the supply chain. Upstream actors must go beyond regulatory requirements to prioritise these issues by collaborating with industry and leveraging mining reform. In part two, we explore what #responsiblemining practices look like for downstream actors, drawing on the #OECD Handbook and ICMM’s concept of mitigation hierarchy. https://lnkd.in/edwnnFeb

Eagle Mountain Mining Ltd (ASX:EM2) Discovers High-Grade Gold, Silver, and Lead at Silver Mountain Project CEO, Tim Mason, expressed his excitement about the discoveries, stating, “We are excited to be discovering a stable of high-quality targets within this underexplored, world-class mining jurisdiction. These targets are supported by the discovery of high-grade gold and silver-rich zones along significant geological trends, including one stretching well over 1km between historic mines. Sampling and mapping results suggest the high-grade features could be porphyry related mineralisation. These exceptional results complement our previously identified porphyry indicators. New outcrops of porphyry alteration have been identified, adding to all the other indicators of a porphyry system under cover.” Read our article below: https://lnkd.in/g6-4X2JK #gold #silver #lead #mining #arizona #resources #geology #stocks #em2 #asx

Hello prospectors & developers, Motherlode Consulting Inc. would like to bring you our post #25 of world-class mineral districts! Our 25th post focuses on #gold in #Ontario, which has drawn the attention of 179 mining & exploration companies, 134 being Canadian-listed, 6 being USA-listed, 5 being ASX-listed, 3 being UK-listed and 31 being private companies. #Ontario ranks Top 10 of the world for its Investment Attractiveness measured in The Fraser Institute Annual Survey of Mining Companies 2023. Gold mineralization primarily occurs in #orogenic #greenstone belt deposits, which are primarily hosted in ancient, deformed volcanic-sedimentary sequences (greenstone belts). Their main characteristics include association with structurally complex, #metamorphic settings, particularly near faults and shear zones. Mineralization is often related to regional #tectonic events and fluid flow through deep crustal structures. Gold is commonly hosted in #quartz-#carbonate #veins, often with sulfides like pyrite or arsenopyrite. Other gold deposits to a lesser extent include #VMS deposits. The image below shows the number of primary gold projects in Ontario distributed through the Lassonde Curve. There are 21 producing projects in this region operated by several large cap mining companies including Newmont Corporation, Barrick, Agnico Eagle Mines Limited, Pan American Silver Corp., Alamos Gold Inc., Evolution Mining, Equinox Gold Corp., IAMGOLD Corporation and West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. among others. Some of the largest developing projects in feasibility stage (3), PFS/Scoping stage (20) and Resource-definition stage (73) include STLLR Gold Inc. Tower (386 Mt @ 1.0 g/t Au), Agnico Eagle Mines Limited Hammond Reef (256 Mt @ 0.68 g/t Au), GoldShore Resources Moss Lake (183 Mt @ 1.02 g/t Au) and First Mining Gold Corp. Springpole (167 Mt @ 0.91 g/t Au) among others. There is a vast amount of exploration stage projects (235) in this region, with some of the junior companies including Portofino Resources, Big Ridge Gold Corp., P2 Gold Inc. (TSXV: PGLD | OTCQB: PGLDF)., Solstice Gold Corp., Platinex Inc., Riverside Resources Inc. , Renegade Gold Inc., StrikePoint Gold Inc. and Harfang Exploration Inc. among others. Placer gold is of considerable importance due to its substantial economic, historical, and cultural value. Economically, placer gold mining generates significant revenue through gold sales, taxes, and royalties, contributing to national and local economies. It creates employment opportunities and stimulates the growth of related industries, such as equipment manufacturing and services. Historically, placer gold discoveries have driven major gold rushes, leading to the development of new settlements and infrastructure. Culturally, it is often part of the heritage and identity of regions where gold mining has been prominent. Additionally, placer gold is relatively accessible, requiring lower capital investment compared to hard rock mining, making it vital for small-scale and artisanal miners. #mining #metals #placergold #goldmining #criticalminerals #rees #bhp #riotinto #maaden #exploration #geology
