“It’s not a job; it’s a career” is what my Dad told me while I was recruiting for law firms during law school. I reflect on that statement daily. This week I attended my firm’s M&A retreat in New Orleans. ⚫️ Along with discussing substantive legal topics and professional skills in the event sessions, we reflected on our practice group’s 2023 statistics. I feel fortunate to have started my CAREER with the leading M&A law firm in the world, where we are both GLOBALLY the #1 M&A principal advisor by deal value and the #1 M&A ($10B+) advisor by deal count. ⚫️A nice stranger on Bourbon Street laughingly insisted on taking my picture as I pulled out my laptop to attend to a client matter quickly at 10 pm. Perhaps unbelievably, the BigLaw lifestyle doesn’t bother me, and I love the work I do. People in a job focus on their short-term objectives, like how to stop working at exactly 5 pm—I focus on how to learn more and learn faster! I feel deeply blessed to be doing the kind of law that sets my soul on fire—and I wish I could join every deal our firm does because I have so much fun! The perspective of “It’s not a job; it’s a career” has helped me keep a long-term perspective, and it has also helped me be happy and fulfilled daily since I started my legal CAREER! #M&A #M&ALaw #BigLaw #Mergersandaquisitions #MandA #Attorney #Lawyer #CPA
