It’s clear the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is all-in on hydrogen – another $62 million awarded to 20 projects across 15 states to accelerate a hydrogen economy in the U.S.!
The impact of these funds stretches beyond the companies to which they are awarded, supporting so many players in the growing U.S. hydrogen ecosystem and motivating investment from private companies.
Two special shout-outs to two of the awarded projects, which will help Hyzon fleet customers and the broader market in expanding much-needed hydrogen refueling capacity and technology:
ZEV Station, awarded $10m for innovative refueling technology and
Linde, awarded $10m for a heavy-duty truck fueling station design using pipeline hydrogen delivery in LaPorte, TX.
It’s an exciting time – and the right time – to be in the hydrogen industry!
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has selected a consortium to accelerate the commercial development of the clean hydrogen economy. This consortium, comprising the EFI Foundation, S&P Global, and ICE (Intercontinental Exchange), will work over the next six to nine months with DOE and the Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs (H2Hubs) to design demand-side support measures. These measures aim to bridge the gap between hydrogen producers and buyers, thereby increasing market certainty and private sector investment. This initiative is vital for the early commercial viability of H2Hubs and will support the growth of a mature clean hydrogen market.

Green hydrogen is rapidly emerging as a reliable means of furthering the global quest toward decarbonization and the clean energy transition. For all its benefits, hydrogen energy has yet to achieve mainstream recognition — but investors in the clean energy space are slowly taking notice of its potential.

What exactly is a hydrogen hub and why are they critical to the energy transition? 🤔
Hydrogen hubs are organized networks of people and facilities working behind a central goal: to speed up the production and usage of low-emissions hydrogen.
“The hydrogen hubs are the start of the beginning, a pathway for clean hydrogen projects to go from conceptual to feasible to operational.”
RMI’s new interview with Nabil Bennouna talks about all things hubs: what they are, how they work, and why we need them to scale the nascent hydrogen market.

Is Hydrogen a Viable Investment Opportunity? Key Stocks to Consider
As the global energy sector moves towards a greener future, hydrogen is increasingly recognized for its potential to play a pivotal role in the clean energy transition. With the demand for green and blue hydrogen on the rise, numerous companies are positioning themselves within this evolving market. #CleanEnergy#BlueHydrogen#GreenHydrogen
I am thrilled to announce Ivys Energy Solutions as one of the amazing hydrogen project teams awarded in the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) latest round of funding to advance the nation’s clean hydrogen strategy!
In our project, Ivys will advance its unique fast-response hydrogen dispensing flow control system, already used in commercial stations in the U.S. and Australia, as well as other key hydrogen fueling technologies, to meet the stringent needs of high-speed hydrogen fueling for medium and heavy duty vehicles. In addition, Ivys will enhance and demonstrate its patented wireless vehicle-to-station bidirectional communications technology to enable advanced fueling protocols and techniques. These cutting-edge technologies will be tested at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in full scale MD/HD hydrogen fueling to demonstrate their readiness for the next frontiers of clean mobility!
Ivys is strongly committed to accelerating the decarbonization of the traditionally difficult and highly polluting medium-duty and heavy-duty fleet vehicle sectors. While the greenhouse gas reductions achieved by electrification of this sector will have a global impact, the reductions in criteria air pollutants and noise from diesel powered engines will directly benefit local communities. Ivys' fleet infrastructure solutions are helping to unlock the potential of hydrogen for mobility and change the way people and goods move. Our mission aims to improve air quality significantly in urban centers, along major roadways and highways, and at ports, thus enabling an equitable transition towards clean transportation that benefits everyone.
I want to personally recognize the tireless work of Sunita Satyapal and her team at the U.S. DOE, U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm, and the Biden-Harris Administration for their vital support of clean hydrogen in the U.S. clean energy economy!
I’m proud to report that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has selected the EFI Foundation to lead the Hydrogen Demand Initiative (H2DI) to help accelerate commercial adoption of clean hydrogen: https://lnkd.in/e2u3cGJ6
The EFI Foundation (EFIF) brings deep knowledge of the challenges involved in a robust domestic clean hydrogen industry, as outlined in our report, “The U.S. Hydrogen Demand Action Plan.” EFIF analysis identified hydrogen as a key breakthrough opportunity for transitioning to a net-zero economy back in our 2019 report, “Advancing the Landscape of Clean Energy Innovation,” supported by Bill Gates's Breakthrough Energy.
We’re working with partner organizations S&P Global, Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the MIT Energy Initiative, and Dentons, bringing to bear their expertise in project finance, regulation, and multisector modeling to lower the risks associated with clean hydrogen investments and facilitate sustainable demand. We have a project team already in place to stand up H2DI over the coming months.

The clean hydrogen market is booming! Valued at $3.81 billion in 2022, it's expected to grow at an impressive 14.1% annually through 2030. This surge is fueled by the global push to decarbonize heavy industries like steel, cement, and transportation.
Advances in green hydrogen, produced using renewable energy, are driving down costs and boosting adoption. Governments are backing this with supportive policies and investments, while public-private partnerships are scaling up infrastructure.
As hydrogen finds new uses—from fuel cells to industrial processes—the future looks bright for this game-changing energy source!
