Worldwide, Nature For Justice (N4J) leverages nature-based solutions (NbS) to help frontline communities impacted by the climate crisis. As a social justice non-profit, we create #NaturebasedSolutions projects that put communities first. In the US, we work with BIPOC farmers on #regenerativeagriculture, as part of our Farmer Inclusion Program and across Africa, we partner to help smallholder farmers and local landowners engage equitably in global carbon / NbS markets through regenerative agriculture projects. Throughout, we mobilize blended finance for community-determined NbS projects. Environment Network Manawatū (ENM) exists to connect and inspire communities for environmental action. They are the environment hub for the Manawatū region providing sector leadership, building capacity and capability, and creating community. ENM were one of the first to initiate a fund through Te Awa called, the 'Kai Security Fund' and the Growing Gardens & Communities is just one of the initiatives this fund can support. ENM celebrates and promotes the diverse passions of their 65+ member groups, which include biodiversity regeneration, freshwater quality, food resilience, waste reduction, sustainable living, alternative energies, climate change and active transport. The network is organised into two collectives: Manawatū Food Action Network and Manawatū River Source to Sea. As part of the RUWAI commitment to sustainability through land restoration 🌳 programs, we prioritize equipping local communities, especially women and youth, with alternative livelihood skills such as knitting and more. Many a time, people struggling with poverty find it difficult to venture into tree planting and other land restoration initiatives. With such a mindset there will be further degradation and more poverty created in the community. It has to be attractive and inclusive for a thriving and lasting investment to take place. Sometimes organizations funding such efforts seem to detect how they want things done which comes with little or no success. Pay attention to Indigenous concerns and feedback from those on the ground or in the field- what makes a thriving tree planting and restoration investment. While we appreciate numbers we must as well consider need and survival.
