An exiting project "Local Energy Leadership in Värmland (#LOKEN)" that we kicked off at the beginning of this year with Glava Energy Center, Grants and Innovation Office, Karlstad University, Region Värmland and many partners from the Värmland county, had its first research and outreach activity yesterday. At this year's Energy Conference (https://lnkd.in/dpxVWDgN), Lisa Gärdt, Lotta Braunerhielm, Lena Grip and I organised a really thought provoking and inspiring workshop on EnergyCommunities, and learned about the bright sides and pitfalls from several energy communities across Sweden. Amidst of the #climatecrisis and #energycrisis we are in, #decentralisation and local #energyleadership are imperative. #Communities are #climateaction #sweetspots as #powersof10 research found out. LOKEN is aiming to contribute to the #rapidtransformation ahead with new knowledge and #solutions. More about LOKEN: https://lnkd.in/dAP9yfYn. Erica Åkerberg, Håkan Spjuth, Magnus Nilsson.

NORWAY DENIES NORTHCONNECT’S LICENSE APPLICATION A news flash that maybe fell off the radar this week was the fact that Norwegian government re-stated their decision to halt the planned new export power line to Scotland. This is a confirmation of news from earlier this year https://lnkd.in/d4mjgjsS where the government wants to safeguard domestic industry. So Norway takes a firm stand when it comes to “For whom do we maintain and develop our Power system” https://lnkd.in/eaxNt2ec. and they do not see “One happy European Power family” https://lnkd.in/dwPwXdbu as their key objective. All this is triggered by how to maintain “Competitive industrial prices” https://lnkd.in/dkaVeNaa and a question any balanced and well functioning power market in Europe should ask themselves. Ideologically driven transition narratives seems to become obsolete, German Energiewende corner stones/fundaments as Siemens Energy are seeking governmental support, EOn and RWE are requesting more subsidies, BASF CEO promotes more competitive Chinese wind supply chains, the world is upside down with little light in the tunnel so one could understand the Norwegian stand 🤔 Sweden, Finland and others who have figured out how to balance their Trilemmas should ask themselves the same question😇 https://lnkd.in/dP3WmiAP

📣 CleanTech investment 📣 As many of you know I've been working for Ukraine since before the full scale Russian invasion. What I haven't talked about before is my investment activities on behalf of Ukraine. Today is not that day either! However what I have been monitoring is signal changes in the energy market, particularly in Germany which has not transitioned from its dependancy on Russian gas. I'm seeing the emergence of a domestic solar market whilst still scrappy is none the less important to that transition. I fully expect CleanTech investors to move into this opportunity space. This will be great news for Germany, our planet and of course Ukraine. I'd love to get your thoughts. Are you seeing the domestic solar market move too? In Germany, elsewhere? #CleanTech #investment #InvestmentNews #Sustainability #Germany https://lnkd.in/edVF2q7X

Today, Alexander Stubb was elected as the new President of Finland. His profound understanding of Nordic energy security and collaboration is unparalleled. This insight was evident when he served as a keynote speaker at the Å Energi conference last year, delivering a comprehensive historical and geopolitical analysis from the stage. In a world marked by more uncertainty and instability than in several decades, increased trade, exchange and cooperation are important key words to get through the crisis. Stubb's recognition of the centrality of the energy transition resonates deeply with us. Addressing the challenges of climate change, sustainable growth, industrial development, and security of supply, hinges on a robust renewable energy strategy. At Å Energi, where I’m CEO, we are dedicated to finding new solutions to meet our future renewable energy demands. As we congratulate President Stubb's election, we look forward to invite industry experts, politicians, decision-makers and partners to our upcoming conference, 4th of June in Kristiansand. Once again, we will address challenges for shaping the future landscape of renewable energy in the Nordics, and early bird tickets can be found here: https://lnkd.in/dNutu9K9

I had the honor of attending an event in Bergen yesterday, where we were joined by the Finnish presidential couple and Crown Prince Haakon of Norway. The event focused on strengthening business collaboration between Norway and Finland, particularly in areas driving the green transition in the maritime industry. ⚓🌍 It was a privilege to represent The Switch alongside other industry leaders like Wärtsilä i Norge and Corvus Energy. We discussed some innovations, from Bergen Havn and Plug | Shore Power & Maritime Charging initiatives—reducing cruise ship emissions by 60% and the goal of reaching 100% shore power by 2030—to Northern Lights JV's carbon storage solutions and Corvus Energy' growing leadership in battery technology, with their headquarters right here in Bergen. 🔋⚡ It was a day full of engaging conversations and inspiring insights. As we continue to push forward in this space, I’m proud of the progress we’re making and excited about the future of maritime sustainability! 🌱🔋 Thanks also goes out to NCE Maritime CleanTech, which represents one of the world’s most complete maritime commercial hubs! At The Switch, we’re already contributing to this collaboration between Norway and Finland through our cutting-edge marine frequency converters and game-changing protection devices for large DC systems. Together, we’re driving the green revolution in maritime technology. 🌐💡 #GreenTransition #MaritimeIndustry #Sustainability #BusinessCollaboration #Norway #Finland #TheSwitch #gamechanger #decarbonization #shipping

As we push toward a net-zero future, I believe green hydrogen is poised to become a cornerstone of our energy system, much like wind energy did 20-30 years ago. At Green Hydrogen Systems, we’re working hard to turn this potential into reality – but we can't do it alone. We need bold action from policymakers to create the right framework, invest in infrastructure, and ensure long-term support. The same political willpower that propelled Denmark to the forefront of wind energy is needed again – this time for green hydrogen. Thank you to Jan Hylleberg from Green Power Denmark for joining Green Hydrogen Systems and me in this call for Denmark to seize this moment. If we act now, we can secure our place as a global leader in green hydrogen, creating new jobs, exports, and a sustainable future for all. Let’s not miss this opportunity. The green hydrogen revolution is ready for take-off, and I’m excited to be part of this journey. 🙌 #GreenHydrogen #EnergyTransition #FutureOfEnergy https://lnkd.in/dK4-BF9s

Things are developing in our electricity industry, and here are my SEVEN ELECTRICITY TAKEAWAYS from the Norwegian industry meeting place at #Arendalsuka: 1) Energy efficiency has immense potential – we can cut tens of TWh and hardly notice it (no loss of welfare or impact on quality of life) 2) Local energy communities can supplement and strengthen the power system and motivate us all to contribute 3) Flexibility in industrial energy consumption plays a crucial role in balancing the power system, allowing room for the new advances we want to achieve. In #SnerpaPower we help make this happen - check us out https://lnkd.in/dsGMETJh 4) Cooperation is key️ – between grid companies, sectors and industries. Working together is essential. ElBits is making progress. The Energikoordinator pilot project is promising, but I wonder why it has not just been implemented across the industry (do we need to pilot everything?). Initiatives like CINELDI/SecurEl and other R&D partnerships are key to drive us forward. 5) Digitalisation will not create green energy, but it’s crucial for enabling the green energy transition. With more and better data, and increased computing power, we have unprecedented opportunities for doing a better job. 6) Protecting and restoring nature is becoming increasingly important , further emphasizing the need to not waste energy and optimize existing resources. Knowledge, awareness and action plans for nature conservation are moving forward and will develop further. 7) Questioning growth? Not many question growth from the big scenes in Arendal, but it is not weird anymore to do so, and it is much more common. As the planetary boundaries are close (or surpassed) , we must think outside the box and take radical steps to consume less resources. What will the effect be on Norwegian industry, energy policies and future developments? How will Norway position itself for the future?
