Let's continue the Volunteer Appreciation topic with more ideas! As noted last week, acknowledging and recognizing the volunteers of your community or organization needs to be constant. Consider these ways: - List volunteers in the community newsletter - Acknowledge a committee or particular volunteer at a Board meeting - Hold a volunteer appreciation event - Hang photos of the volunteers in the clubhouse - Highlight the work and time with photos and videos at the annual meeting What other ways do you acknowledge your volunteers? #tiptuesday #volunteerappreciationmonth

People are at the centre of association life, which is why we focus on them when we do our work. It could be members, volunteers, suppliers, partners or staff. The personal experience is our motivation. Either way, TouchPoint’s Focus on people carries us through not just this month, which is when we celebrate National Volunteer month, but the entire year. #associationmanagement #focus #eventmanagement #celebratevolunteers

The next generation of volunteers is the future of your program so it's important to understand what motivates them to join your cause or event. Here's four lessons from our latest event on how to engage with Gen-Z Volunteers, what messages can you use to inspire them to join your program and what could block them from ever engaging with you? Read the article -> https://buff.ly/4aJO4KG Do Gen-Z make up a significant proportion of your volunteer program and what do you differently for them? #globalvolunteermonth #volunteermanagement

#MondayMusings This week's theme for the Volunteer Impact campaign is pricing volunteer time. Scholar Lewis Hyde observes that in fairy tales, when a gift is priced or counted, it loses its magic. Assigning a price to volunteer time can be useful, but it also entails consequences that are worth considering. One consequence is the commodification of community. Pricing and counting volunteerism takes what is relational and interdependent and transforms it into something that is transactional and independent. It reduces acts of community to the same principles of profit and production that guide so much of our day-to-day lives. That reduction is a type of fragmentation of community. We lose something of the whole when we put it into practice, especially when we do so without question. We can mitigate these consequences by taking a critical look at our volunteer valuation strategies. Determine when and where it is appropriate - and when it is not. Share what makes volunteerism vibrant and dynamic, messy and powerful, even (and especially) if it can't be priced. If you're just seeing this for the first time, welcome! Join the conversation!
As National Volunteer Week comes to a close, I want to express my gratitude to all the volunteers out there. Whether you volunteer formally or informally, your contribution to making our communities better is invaluable. Thank you for all that you do! If you're passionate about advocating for volunteerism, consider joining me and a group of volunteers for an online workshop. Together with Robert Connell, Marla Pender, Kirsten Carr and Jane Hennig we'll discuss what collaborating towards advocating for volunteerism could look like. The workshop will take place on Tuesday, April 30th at 7 pm EDT, and is open to anyone with an interest in volunteerism. You can sign up through Eventbrite (link in comments below) and the Zoom link will be provided upon registration. Let's continue to work together to make our communities even better!

Still holding on to those High Holiday volunteer cards, unsure where to start? It doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Just take a small step: • Pick one or two opportunities that could use extra hands. • Send a few personal invitations to people who might say yes. • Follow up with a quick reminder to make it easy for them to commit. Small steps like these can spark big changes. Each volunteer who signs up isn’t just filling a role—they’re finding their place in the community and making a difference. Take that first step today. One or two invitations can lead to a stronger, more connected synagogue. #JewishCommunity #VolunteerEngagement #theshulcloudguya
