Humanity Highlights: What Are Human Rights? - An Overview Iโ€™m excited to kick off my new weekly series, ๐™ƒ๐™ช๐™ข๐™–๐™ฃ๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ฎ ๐™ƒ๐™ž๐™œ๐™๐™ก๐™ž๐™œ๐™๐™ฉ๐™จ, where we dive deep into human rights and activism. Thereโ€™s no better place to start than the beginning: ๐‘พ๐’‰๐’‚๐’• ๐’‚๐’“๐’† ๐‘ฏ๐’–๐’Ž๐’‚๐’ ๐‘น๐’Š๐’ˆ๐’‰๐’•๐’”? Human rights are the fundamental rights and freedoms that belong to every person in the world, from birth until death. These rights are based on values like dignity, fairness, equality, respect, and independence. They are universal, meaning they apply to everyone, everywhere, regardless of nationality, gender, ethnicity, religion, or any other status. But how did these rights come to be recognized? Magna Carta (1215): Often cited as one of the first steps towards the concept of human rights. It established the principle that everyone, including the king, was subject to the law. 2. The Declaration of Independence (1776): Asserted the inalienable rights of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." 3. Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948): Adopted by the United Nations, it set out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected. 4. The Civil Rights Movement (1950s-1960s): In the United States, it fought for the end of racial segregation and discrimination against African Americans. 5. International Human Rights Treaties: Various treaties, such as the Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989), continue to expand and enforce human rights globally. ๐‘พ๐’‰๐’š ๐’Š๐’” ๐’•๐’‰๐’Š๐’” ๐’Š๐’Ž๐’‘๐’๐’“๐’•๐’‚๐’๐’•? Understanding the history and foundation of human rights is crucial because it highlights the ongoing struggle and progress towards ensuring dignity and equality for all. It's a reminder that the fight for human rights is far from over, and each of us has a role to play in advocating for and protecting these rights. สŸแด‡๊œฑ๊œฑแดษด: Human rights are the cornerstone of a just and equitable society so we need to celebrate these milestones and continue to fight for the rights and freedoms of all individuals. Ps: Repost if you find this useful so others can find it useful as well โ™ป๏ธ #HumanityHighlights #HumanRights #SocialJustice #Equality #Activism
