So you’ve got a client lead. And you’ve finally booked a call with them. Now what? 😅 Here’s how to prepare for that first 'sales call' with a new potential client... 1. Research the client 🔎 -> What is their business model? -> What are their goals? -> What is the role of the person you’re speaking to? -> Have they worked with someone like you before? _____________ 2. Know Your Product/Service 🧠 Be clear and memorise your pricing (they will probably ask you about this) Know where you can be flexible and where your boundaries are beforehand. _____________ 3. Plan the right questions 📝 Some examples... What are the current goals for this project? What hasn’t worked in the past to achieve this goal? How do you plan to measure the success of this project? _____________ 4. Case studies and testimonials 💬 Show them how you’ve helped similar clients solve similar problems. Walk them through the steps you took to achieve those results. _____________ 5. Plan the next steps 👣 Before getting on the call have a clear plan for what the steps are for after the call. What will you do next? When will you follow up? What do you need from them? _____________ Having that first call with a new potential client can be daunting and bring a lot of pressure. Hands up, Who's a self-taught motion designer? 👋 I've been hearing from many motion designers that they have imposter syndrome because they lack official qualifications in motion design. But the reality is that motion design is a still fairly new industry so I would bet most motion designers are self-taught. I studied Film Production at University, and only one of the modules was in After Effects. I am mainly self-taught because I learned most of what I know after my degree. Curious to see how others started and continue to learn motion design. #motiondesign #motiondesigners

3 things to consider before deciding your rate as a motion designer... (these are often forgotten) 1. The scale of the client and their budget 💰 Are they a big brand? You should be charging them more if you think they have big budgets. 2. The potential longevity of the partnership 🤝 Could they guarantee you regular work? You might want to offer a discount in exchange for longevity. 3. The urgency and timeframe of the deadline ⏰ Do they need this project completed quickly? You should be charging extra for working to last-minute deadlines.
