Tropical Cyclone Hidaya crossed the coast of southern Tanzania over the weekend, causing widespread flooding and damaging critical infrastructure along the coast. We are pleased to report that our workforce is safe with no reported injuries to personnel, and that they were able to ensure operations at Lindi Jumbo continued with minimal disruption. Fortunately, the Lindi Jumbo Graphite Mine was only mildly impacted with heavy rains and brief grid power disruption. While the port of Mtwara and the connecting road to the mine remain open for product deliveries, cyclone damage has impacted the coastal road to Dar es Salaam, in the Kilwa District north of the town of Lindi, where several bridges are out of service. WKT’s MD and CEO Andrew Cunningham says: “While there will be short term impacts on the export of graphite concentrate from the Lindi Jumbo mine, our current assessment is that these are expected to be only minor.” Read the full ASX announcement: https://lnkd.in/gCprAFWP #walkabout #graphite #graphitemine #hidaya #cyclone #tanzania #kenya #cyclonehidaya

Last week, I had a fruitful engagement with the teams at Concreet Projectmanagement and BuildtoImpact, two partners based in the Netherlands that have walked with us at Eco Concrete Limited the journey of developing new green cements from Ugandan raw materials/Development Minerals. We are currently piloting the use of these new green cements in Rubanda District, Western Uganda. These amazing people are also in a long partnership with us to deliver low carbon and affordable quality construction materials that will be applied in the construction of climate resilient and functional rural agricultural homesteads for Ugandans. We know you know that universities teach urban planning, not rural homesteads planning. There are no professionals trained to help rural farmers plan their homesteads according to the obtaining functional requirements, yet 80% of Ugandans are still living in rural areas. We want to solve this anomaly. We want to deliver well planned and functional homesteads with standardized labour productivity value chains so your educated brothers, sisters and children can find gainful employment in a well planned rural infrastructure system. As a result, we will address the current problem of youth unemployment as we support the GoU’s Parish Development Model. And, above all, we want to use housing as a tool to deliver dignity to rural Ugandans and improve their quality of life and living. Twan Kleeven is the founder and Managing Director of concreet PM-nl, which partnered with us in 2021 when we conducted the technical viability studies in introducing geopolymer cement on Ugandan market. He flows in abundance, together with his co-director, Erwin Horsten. The company recently donated a brandy new concrete compression testing machine to us at Eco Concrete Limited. The machine will definitely strengthen our cement testing capabilities and guarantee that we deliver only quality concrete products to the market as we accelerate application of the new innovations on the market. Vera Kreuwels ans Alexander Van Leersum head BuildtoImpact, a company we are now in partnership with as we pilot production and use of the green cements in Uganda. We are all people of abundance, and it’s what our partnership is all about. We want to create positive transformation as we bridge distances and cultures and connect people and ideas. Of course, we are excited to be aligned well with the Government of Uganda’s industrial strategy of value addition to development minerals. We continue to take pride in delivering innovations on Ugandan market that are ecological, affordable, and potentially good for the economic development of the nation. # Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (Uganda), Uganda National Association of Builders Supplies and Engineering Contractors (UNABSEC), Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers- UIPE (Official), Uganda Manufacturers Association, Uganda Association of Consulting Engineers

𝐅𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐚 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐚💧🌍 As an environmental engineer, I am thrilled to share the inspiring story of the people of Haska Mena (Debala) district in #Nangarhar! With the financial support of citizens and relatives abroad, they have constructed 43 dams—13 large and 30 small—that are revolutionizing water management in the region. These dams aren't just static structures; they're lifelines, efficiently capture and store rain and flood water, addressing the severe water table decline and ensuring a steady supply for drinking and agriculture. But here's what truly warms my hearth: it's not just about humans. This remarkable initiative not only combats water scarcity but also boosts food production and provides drinking water for animals, all sorts of creatures, big and small whether it's buzzing insects or majestic animals taking a sip, everyone's getting a share of the water. The positive impact on migratory communities has been profound, demonstrating the incredible resilience and hard work of our Afghan people. Let's celebrate and encourage such grassroots efforts in sustainability and community-driven solutions! #WaterManagement #Sustainability #CommunityPower #EnvironmentalEngineering

As the demand for affordable and sustainable housing continuously grows in Uganda, we are excited to introduce our latest addition to our alternative binders catalog - a green cement made from volcanic ash, gypsum, and lime developed by Atwebembeire Gloria and David Muwanguzi, Civil Engineering students from Makerere University in collaboration with Eco Concrete Limited and Uppsala University for use in building blocks. Compared to traditional Portland cement, our green cement solutions offer several key advantages: ✅ Environmental Benefits: By utilizing locally sourced low embodied energy materials, we reduce CO2 emissions by up to 50% compared to conventional cement. ✅ Cost-Effective: Our green cement is 20-25% more affordable than Portland cement, making it a viable option for low-income communities and projects focused on building affordable housing. ✅ Locally Produced: We manufacture our green cement right here in Uganda. This supports the local economy and reduces the reliance on imported construction materials. If you're a project manager, developer, or construction firm looking to incorporate sustainable and cost-effective building solutions, we would love to connect and discuss how our green cement blocks can benefit your next project. Let's build a greener, more inclusive future together! 🌍️🏗️ #GreenCement #AffordableHousing #SustainableConstruction #Uganda"

Tbilisi Sea: A Hydrosocial Tapestry The Tbilisi Sea is located next to the Temka district, which is a mixed land use. It connects human activities and water supply to the whole of Tbilisi town. Tbilisi sea water supply was created in the middle of the 20th century, to answer the demand for water growing need. It was a huge engineering project. To make the idea into a life, they had to flood whole villagers and farmlands, which completely changed the local environment and human behavior near that area. This entering into the natural cycle highlights the complex challenge of urban water management. Today, the "Tbilisi Sea" is a recreational hub. It not only supplies drinking water to the entire capital but also serves as a popular spot, for people who wants to enjoy, the hot summer days. This location has also attracted investors, which contributed to the establishment of the "Gino Paradise" Aquapark. Close connection to near districts such as Temka highlights the intricate relationship between urban development and natural resources. #Tbilisi #urbanstudies #hydrosocial #watermanagement #urbanplanning #Georgia"

East African Industrial Park - The Pioneer The East African Industrial Park (EAIP) stands as a testament to the innovative spirit of East African Holding. Established over 26 years ago, EAIP was the first private industrial park in Ethiopia, set up at a time when there was no legal or institutional framework to support such initiatives. This makes the park's infrastructure and facilities truly groundbreaking, preceding the current popularity of industrial parks. Equipped with comprehensive infrastructure, EAIP offers tenants access to reliable transportation (access road, railway, high way, dry port, reliable hydroelectric power supply, assurance (safety and security services), a data center, weigh-bridges, water supply systems, social infrastructure (clinic, canteen), pre-constructed sheds (warehouses and manufacturing units), and developed leasable land. The company provides a range of services, including shed rentals, leasable land, maintenance, security, utilities management, common area management, tenant operations support, legal and compliance assistance, and emergency preparedness. Originally occupying 20.6 hectares in Bishoftu, EAIP now plans to expand by an additional 80 hectares. This expansion aims to accommodate a diverse array of industries, strengthen integration with the local economy, and attract more exporting companies. #ThisTooIsEAH #EAIP #EastAfricanHolding #IndustrialPark #Business #Ethiopia #Africa
