When each mode shape of a structure exhibits dominance in one direction with minimal motion in other directions, it not only indicates a decoupling of motions but also reflects the underlying symmetry and methodical design of the structure. Such characteristics are beneficial for simplifying the analysis and enhancing the predictability of the structure’s response to earthquake loads.
