For my dissertation I am researching the proposed brownfield passport. I welcome participants from all fields of the construction industry to take part in my survey to help me understand opinions on the passports and brownfield development in general. The brownfield passport is one of the proposed ways the government intend to "Get Britain Building Again". The passport is aimed to be more specific about the development that should be regarded as acceptable, with the default answer to suitable proposals being a straightforward yes. The passport will look to encouraging building on brownfield by lowering the risk, cost and uncertainty that is associated with securing planning permission on brownfield land. NUST Research Chronicles: Being a civil engineer, and always having an attitude of theoretical and lab work in university, I never had that creative and critical thinking aspect in me. But now, my time at NUST, I have understood the significance of research and critical thinking. Congratulations to our Rajat Gangrade, Ph.D. on being named Young Member of the Year by the Underground Construction Association. The award honors professionals who have made "personal commitments to improving the tunnel and underground construction industry." Rajat is part of our geotechnical and tunnel engineering team in San Francisco and shares three pieces of advice for those looking to enter the industry: 1. Build your network: Attend conferences, events, webinars and establish connections with professionals in the field. Identify mentors who can provide guidance and support as you navigate your career in tunneling. 2. Stay committed to learning: Tunneling is a dynamic and evolving field that requires a bit of commitment toward continued professional development. Stay curious, be willing to learn, and be open to new ideas/approaches. 3. Consider specialization and practical experience: Tunneling focused courses or certifications are valuable in keeping up to date with the state-of-the-art practices. 🚨 New Paper Out! 🚨 Excited to share our latest research published in the Journal of Hydraulic Engineering from the American Society of Civil Engineers. We summarized the state of the art of tranquilizing racks (TRs) in desanding facilities and conducted a field study at the settling chambers of the HPP Susasca in the Canton of Grisons, Switzerland. By extending the vertical bars of the original TR towards the invert, a more homogeneous flow field and a considerable reduction of the turbulence intensities and turbulent kinetic energy in the chambers were achieved. And I can say it firmly thanks to this experience organized by Career Service - Politecnico di Milano that led me to understand how the civil engineer is not just a designer of structures, but a key player in the #energy network transformation. 🌱 This is found in the ready #infrastructure of 2i Rete Gas S.p.A for the transport and management of #biogas, which has now become a reality. 🔋 This is evidenced by NHOA Energy's optimization of energy storage, made possible by the strategic choice of hub location and the proper distribution of these resources. ♻️ It is confirmed by Unidro (https://lnkd.in/dXWDE6b4), which integrates solutions that fully utilize the energy potential of water into its infrastructure projects. A talk that made me increasingly aware of how crucial interdisciplinarity is in engineering fields and how the civil engineer plays a key role in building a sustainable future. 👷🏻♂️ In how many other areas can interdisciplinarity make a difference?
