For over three decades, climate change has been a major issue of global concern and negotiation with the media widely covering the topic and the effects of severe events linked to rising temperatures. Biodiversity loss, on the other hand, has been largely overlooked for a long time but is quickly becoming more crucial as our entire economic system depends on nature, relying on its natural capital of land, water, and biodiversity. However, we need a system in place which accounts for the full economic value of the natural capital and its associated biodiversity and ecosystem services.

Climate change is having far-reaching consequences, including: - Rising sea levels and coastal erosion - Increased frequency and intensity of natural disasters - Unpredictable weather patterns and extreme temperatures - Loss of biodiversity and ecosystem disruption - Food and water scarcity - Negative impacts on human health and well-being To prevent further damage and mitigate these effects, we can take the following steps: - Transition to renewable energy sources and increase energy efficiency - Preserve natural habitats and promote reforestation - Reduce waste and implement recycling programs - Implement sustainable practices in agriculture and industry - Support climate-friendly policies and international cooperation By taking collective action, we can reduce our carbon footprint and protect the planet for future generations. #save_planet🌿 #save_environment ♻️ #climate_change_awareness @ GreenBhumi @ TopTrove Foundation

Thank you to the UN Environment Programme for hosting the second #GEO7 authors meeting in Vienna last week. Looking forward to seeing the outcomes of the first order draft. The report aims to provide solution pathways to address the triple planetary crisis (climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution plus land degradation). Authors from the Millennium Institute are involved in translating the solution pathways into country specific - development contexts. #unep #transformationpathways #systemschange #GEO7

🌍 International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem! 🌱 Today, we join the global community in recognizing the vital importance of mangrove ecosystems. Mangroves are not only unique coastal forests but also crucial allies in the fight against climate change through their incredible carbon sequestration capabilities, known as Blue Carbon. 🔗 https://bit.ly/46jcVnB 🔎 In honor of this day, we are happy to share our latest blog article, "Mangroves and Blue Carbon", which explores: 📌 The essential role of mangroves in Blue Carbon projects 📌 Their immense potential in mitigating climate change 📌 The challenges faced in conserving these ecosystems 📌 Strategies for their effective conservation 📌 The current status and future prospects of Blue Carbon projects 🌨️ Mangroves efficiently capture and store carbon dioxide in their biomass and sediments, making them one of the most carbon-dense ecosystems on the planet. Protecting and restoring these forests is crucial for reducing atmospheric CO2 levels and enhancing coastal resilience against climate impacts. 🌊 Despite their significance, mangroves are under threat from deforestation, pollution, and climate change. Our article delves into the conservation challenges and the innovative strategies needed to safeguard these vital ecosystems. 👀 We invite you to read our full article to learn more about the transformative power of mangroves and how Blue Carbon initiatives can support global climate goals. 🔗 Read the article here https://bit.ly/46jcVnB Let's work together to protect and restore mangroves for a sustainable future! "An absolute reduction in the use of natural resources is indispensable to meet climate change, biodiversity and pollution ambitions" - UNEP. Construction sector is responsible for 50% Raw material extraction, annually, globally. "According to the UNEP International Resource Panel, resource use is at the roots of our triple planetary crises (climate, biodiversity loss, pollution), and the trends are alarming." - The link in Comment. "Ultimately, as humans, changing our relationship with Nature that we are ourselves a part of, is not only an environmental, but also an economic, equity and security imperative to strengthen collective resilience. This relationship is not stable, nor balanced, and it will need to be resolved either with early action, collective wisdom and cooperation, or in a hard and painful way. More than an economic or a technological choice, this is a moral choice. There’s no real reason for the climate and biodiversity crises to have gotten to this point, and there’s no good reason for them to continue getting worse. In his latest column, David Suzuki illustrates the dire situation Earth's critical life-support systems are in. We have surpassed six of the nine planetary boundaries that maintain a stable and resilient Earth. The good new is there is no shortage of solutions to change the systems that brought us to this point. https://ow.ly/IkGe50TCPmn
Climate and biodiversity solutions offer endless positive possibilities

The oceans face triple or even quadruple threats simultaneously. - lack of oxygen - lack of biodiversity and biomass - acidification - extreme heating All these can be solved through reduction in consumption, pollution and increased restoration and conservation. The oceans keep us alive, without healthy oceans, there is no human society, well-being or economy. It has been estimated by researchers that only 1-1,5 billion humans can survive the death of the oceans. Don't trust your luck. https://lnkd.in/dtvVVC6s
New research uncovers troubling 'triple threat' facing the world's oceans: 'The impacts of this have already been seen and felt'

Happy Earth Day! It is a terrific time to reflect on our incredible and imperilled home. We have exceeded 6 of the 9 planetary boundaries according to research from the Stockholm Resilience Centre and leading environmental scientists. These include impacts on the triple planetary crises of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. However, there are reasons for hope. Here are some of mine: -Growing international action: the landmark Kunming-Montral Global Biodiversity Framework offers us a path to a nature-positive world by 2030. -Advancing renewable deployment: around the world, nearly 80% of new energy capacity installation was from low-carbon sources in 2023 -Rising national standards: air quality and waste disposal laws are improving in some of the biggest metropolitan areas around the world This progress has been made because millions of people all across the world are innovating, acting, and raising their voices for positive change! We need to redouble our efforts to restore and preserve our shared home! #earthday2024 #climate #nature #biodiversity #netzero #naturepositive #earthday #sharedhome #environment
