We are pleased to share that the Commonwealth of Virginia General Assembly formally commended Jyothi Raghavan for her legacy of service as a patient advocate. Earlier this year, NBTS named Jyothi as a 2024 Advocate Champion Award recipient for her advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill in honor of her son, a pediatric #medulloblastoma brain tumor survivor, and in memory of her brother who passed away from #glioblastoma. In this video, Jyothi shares her family’s story and why raising awareness for the pediatric brain tumor community matters during #CCAM and beyond. Congratulations, Jyothi, on your well-deserved honor! #ChildhoodCancerAwarenessMonth

Wellness Wednesday: Breast Health is Self-care and wellness "To reap the benefits of modern medicine, we need to stay on top of our screenings, advocate for ourselves, and make sure everyone has access to the diagnostic tools that could very well save their life". Katie Couric When life gets busy, it's easy to delay or even skip important health screenings. But the longer cancer goes undetected, the more opportunity it has to grow and spread. Regular screenings are the best way to detect cancer early, when it is easier to treat. "We know that Black women are less frequently undergoing screening mammography. BW4HL is committed to providing information to fix it; so we can more toward to overcoming this disparity. A diagnosis of breast cancer made earlier through screening, when the tumors are smaller and can be more easily removed is beneficial to the survival of Black Women. We understand that sometimes the information out there is confusing because there are different guidelines on annual preventive care appointments. Mayo Clinic the Cancer Society recommend that you start your screening mammograms at the age of 40 and continue to do them annually. In healthcare, creating a calming and nurturing environment can be just as important as the treatment itself. That's why pink is often used in spaces like pediatric wards, maternity units, and cancer treatment centers. This color has been shown to alleviate anxiety and promote a sense of well-being among patients, families, and staff. Additionally, pink is associated with breast cancer awareness, making it a well-known symbol for the cause. By incorporating pink into healthcare environments, we can contribute to a supportive atmosphere conducive to healing and recovery. Let's continue to prioritize the comfort and well-being of patients in every way possible. #healthcare #pink #breastcancerawareness

How much impact will the inclusion of #diversity in clinical trials have? Pfizer is making great efforts on this issue by collaborating with community organizations, establishing a steering committee and implementing impact programs, all with the goal of promoting #equity in cancer care. The inclusion of diversity will have a big impact over the Pharmaceutical industry, developing drugs that consider a population that is not biased, for enhanced care and more accuracy. We address this issue by developing customizable #virtualhuman trials that allow the consideration of many variables and the development of precise drugs. For many people, access to health information is only a Google search or swipe away. However, recent Johnson & Johnson data show that patients from underrepresented communities are not able to find online resources that accurately reflect their lived experience and about two-thirds feel underrepresented in stories and experiences of other patients online. This month, we recognize National Minority Health Month. These data underscore the importance of this year’s theme, Be the Source for Better Health, which aims to share resources to improve health outcomes through cultures, communities, and connections. At #JNJ, we know that patients have better outcomes when they are more informed and have the resources to make decisions about their care. We are working to close this health education access gap by inviting underrepresented people in the lung cancer community to become a part of BeLUNG Here. Through this initiative, we hope to build a group of patient advocates with diverse backgrounds, cultures, abilities, and perspectives to bring differentiated voices to social media and the lung cancer community. When patients see themselves reflected in the shared experiences of the lung cancer community, they feel a greater sense of inclusion and are more empowered to navigate their healthcare journey. This impact can be better understood through the personal stories of Nichelle and Jimmy. You can read more about their stories here: https://lnkd.in/eaA3ta2p To read more about the goal and mission of BeLUNG Here, check out the Endpoints News article in the comments. #MyCompany #NMHM2024 #LungCancer #HealthEquity
