Book recommendation for 2024: "The Power of Moments.". It discusses how meaningful moments in our lives are constructed, and how we can deliberately engineer those moments for ourselves and others. CMNC will be "The Magical Moments Museum!"

The Spring 2024 issue of Exhibition journal is now out. “Alternative Realities” surveys many ways exhibitions can question existing systems and open pathways to new and more equitable futures. At a time when what divides us can feel almost insurmountable, authors share how they are harnessing hope, challenging prevailing narratives, and upending established museum practices as they seek to reshape our vision of what is possible—within and beyond the museum. Virtual Summit: “small But MIGHTY: the powerful resilience of SMALL museums” The American Association for State and Local History presents a virtual summit that will celebrate the creativity and resourcefulness of small museums through the lens of resiliency. What have we learned about small museums responding to global change that can inspire the field? How can the challenges of operating a small museum also make it easier to be nimble when faced with obstacles? This virtual summit, developed by small museums for small museums, will provide practical information as well as inspirational stories to prepare participants for the future, in particular, the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026. https://lnkd.in/ehscpMV4

planning a museum: Define your vision and mission: Clearly articulate the purpose and goals of your museum. Consider the type of exhibits, collections, and experiences you want to offer to visitors. 

Good to see the MA showing leadership by putting time and resources into this work. Many organisations scramble about for training sessions as a quick fix, working groups without providing the necessary resources and support, one off consultant training and the expectation for change to be delivered only by people with 'lived experience' not alongside. To embed change and foster equity there needs to be a consistent approach. An essential requirement for employment in the cultural heritage sector should include the following ' CAN YOU DEMONSTRATE AN UNDERSTANDING OF SYSTEMS OF INTERSECTIONAL OPPRESSIONS AND POWER INEQUALITY' If it was taken that seriously, the demographics, skills and expertise of the workforce would change dramatically. This is a step in the right direction 👏🏽 👏🏽
