Also, thank you to Andy Toy for serving as a moderator last night and thanks to @HIASPennsylvannia and Nationalities Service Center for partnering with us for this Immigrant Heritage Month discussion on renting to refugees.
Was honored to give opening remarks today for our Office of Immigrant Affairs’ Landlord Outreach event. OIA and its nonprofit partners are doing the important work of resettling refugees, and they hosted this event to bring more landlord partners into their network. During the event, we heard from landlords who’ve found great, reliable tenants through this effort, while also welcoming newcomers to our city, and also heard from a refugee tenant of what it was like to flee a dangerous situation in his home country and be welcomed graciously here in Philadelphia. For centuries, Philadelphia has been a place where folks from across the world— including my own mother— have come in search of new opportunities. I’m glad we’re continuing to live up to that history by wrapping our arms around our newest residents, and I’m proud of the work our city is doing in this area!
