🚀 There's still time to register for tomorrow's Michigan Alliance for Greater Mobility Advancement (MAGMA) Advisory Council meeting, highlighting the recent designation of the Michigan Defense Resiliency Consortium (MDRC) under the Defense Manufacturing Community Support Program. 🎤 Featured speakers include: 🔸 Angela Accurso, MPA, Director of Workforce Programs at MxD Learn 🔸 Stephanie Ludwig, Director of Industry Programs, University of Michigan - Economic Growth Institute 🔸 Elizabeth Melville, Director of Professional Learning at SAE International 🔸 Chad Darr, Director of Defense Hardtech Accelerator at Centrepolis Accelerator 🔸 And panel moderator Sarah Tennant, Senior Sector Development Director & Cyber Advisor of Michigan Economic Development Corporation MDRC, a collaborative effort, is paving the way for energy storage and battery manufacturing crucial for the Department of Defense’s rapid transition to Electric Vehicles (EVs) and renewable energy sources. 💼 With a focus on workforce development, MDRC partners with MxD Learn and SAE International. MxD is crafting an Electric Vehicle (EV) Hiring Guide, outlining the skills needed for roles in the EV supply chain, with a special emphasis on energy storage and battery supply chains. Additionally, MxD will develop a Community Equity Plan to ensure underserved communities can participate in the EV sector. 📚 SAE International is spearheading the development of industry standards for battery manufacturing and lifecycle maintenance, alongside creating Workforce Certifications for roles in the battery supply chain. 🌟 Supported by a $4.9 million grant from the DoD and local backing totaling $6.3 million, MDRC aims to position Michigan as a leader in technology, talent, and manufacturing innovation. As the UK transitions towards a low-carbon economy, we are increasingly dependent on new and innovative technologies. From product design through to the end user, these new technologies are filtering through into everyday usage. It will be crucial to train technicians with the skills required to adopt and maintain them. The manufacturing sector has a key role to play in ensuring our nation is on the cutting edge of innovation, with all the technical skills required for the future. The HVM Catapult continues to be at the forefront of this drive to restructure the economy, developing projects like the Department for Education-funded Emerging Skills Programme (ESP) that have helped develop a national skill base in the technologies required for the increased usage of electric vehicles. These green skills are vital to reach the government’s target of net zero by 2050, particularly in everyday areas such as electric vehicle manufacture.
