The rise of remote work has introduced new challenges for multinational organisations, particularly regarding corporate tax residency and permanent establishment. Key considerations include: 1. Tax Residency: Remote work can affect where an organisation is considered a tax resident, especially if board meetings are held in different countries due to travel restrictions. 2. Permanent Establishment: Long-term remote work across borders can create permanent establishment risks, potentially leading to double taxation and penalties. 3. Transfer Pricing: Adjustments may be necessary if key functions are now performed in different locations. Stay informed to navigate these complexities effectively. #Vistra #RemoteWork #CorporateTax #TaxResidency #PermanentEstablishment #TransferPricing

As remote work reshapes business, Pillar Two tax compliance becomes more complex. Remote and hybrid models increase non-compliance risks, requiring new strategies to integrate employee mobility into tax discussions on BEPS impacts. One crucial strategy is the meticulous tracking and documentation of workforce roles. As cross-border work requests surge, financial services firms must now manage tax liabilities and compliance across multiple jurisdictions. This requires a careful balance between operational demands and tax obligations, ensuring that employee mobility does not lead to tax controversy. Looking ahead, clear communication on workforce policy changes will be essential to maintain positive sentiments and allow mobility while addressing the challenges of tax compliance. To learn more about navigating the complexities of remote work and Pillar Two compliance, check out this detailed breakdown by Rachel D'Argenio, CPA, MBA: https://lnkd.in/dgvUkVev

What would you do if your remote team member relocated to a state where you aren't currently set up for payroll taxes, aren't familiar with the state laws and regulations around hiring, etc.? Maybe you haven't encountered this yet. Might be time to address the possibility in a relocation policy. Some items to consider: - How much lead time will you require to explore the possibility of employment in the new location? - Will you take the necessary steps to become registered in the new state? Or, will the move impact the team member's employability? - What worker's compensation, leave laws, separation pay, and other regulations need to be considered? As you review your current handbook, consider a relocation policy to hopefully avoid surprises for you and your team.
