You Don’t Know What You Don’t Know And That Can Hurt You Just like WWII analysts who missed crucial damage points on downed planes, airlines relying only on GDS data are missing out on competitive fares available through new channels like NDC. To stay ahead of the game, airlines need to rethink their data strategies and use tools that capture a full view across all distribution channels. Don't let survivorship bias impact your revenue management strategies. It was a real pleasure sharing a stage with airline distribution and retailing legends Keith Wallis of Air Canada, Expedia Group’s Paul Butcher, and Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC)’s Shelly Younger to talk about the reality of business and technology evolution in our industry from creating offers to accounting for orders. New Distribution Capability (#NDC) in context - as an enabling philosophy and standard for dynamic, airline-controlled contextualized offers in a world of modern airline retailing through offers and orders - brings the abstract to life. Real people, real successes, real progress. Outcomes that benefit everyone, retailer to seller to consumer. I was asked a lovely question from our audience at the back end of the panel: “what’s it like working for a company - ATPCO - that has dedicated itself to successful industry outcomes, even if it means a different ATPCO in the future?”. The answer…it’s epic, unique, an opportunity to think hard about resonating business problems across an entire industry and scale solutions for them with speed and accuracy, using our utility model, our transparent governance. True industry impact. It takes visionary leadership, a strong culture, and people that believe in it. #bettertogether That’s what it’s like.
✈️ From getting custom NDC offers to the market to ensuring partner settlement and reporting goes smoothly, ATPCO's David Smith, AStd, Air Canada's Keith Wallis, Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC)'s Shelly Younger, and Expedia Group's Paul Butcher discuss working together and embracing change for the industry to accelerate one's distribution strategy. 🎥 Watch the full video from #ElevateTravelConnect2024 to learn how you can have success in a new world of airline-controlled offers and orders: https://bit.ly/3Xtthrf

The NDC and direct booking ambitions of airlines have never as visible and active as much as they have (already) this year. And we're only in Q2. And Offer/Order is still to come... So keep that seatbelt on, the ride is far from over. In the meantime, it's significant to see American Airlines pushing back on their preferred agency program and the changes they wanted to have apply to AAdvantage from 1 May, now earmarked for 1 July. Chaos avoided, or can kicked down the road? Just like the Snitch, NDC is not always so easy to catch. #justsaying #ndc #airlinedistribution

“Global distribution systems have queues for schedule adjustments and the like that agencies routinely deal with; NDC is different because the systems of record are run by the airlines rather than the GDSs. Enter the Order Change Notification (OCN).” No. Sorry. Enter yet more chaos! Read and laugh… or weep. This is an example of what some people call progress. “Order Change Notification”. Who comes up with these names that simply cry out for yet another acronym? No standard, no consistency. Just another dollop of chaos. A happy medium is nothing more than a lame compromise. Playing “Whac-a-Mole” with the changes that are a fundamental part of corporate travel is nothing more than another Nail in the Distribution Coffin that is #NDC. Nothing more. Lamentable! #OrderChangeNotification #NoStandards #WhacAMole #GetBasicsRight #CorporateTravel International Air Transport Association (IATA) #NailintheDistributionCoffin #NewDistributionChaos #NDC
