Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA)’s Post

In #NAVSEA, #PEOUSC and #AlliesandPartnership news… The US Navy recently achieved a significant milestone at the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2024 exercise with the successful launching and testing of Poniard rockets from a Common Unmanned Surface Vehicle (CUSV). In support of the Navy’s mission to continually enhance and expand its maritime capabilities and operational flexibility, the test demonstrates the commitment to integrating mature cutting-edge technology into its operations with allies and partners to maintain maritime superiority and readiness. “The successful live fire demonstration from the CUSV showcases our ability to rapidly deploy and use low-cost guided munitions from unmanned platforms,” said Capt. Matthew Lehmann, program manager of the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Mission Modules Office that has CUSV within its portfolio. “This capability enhances our operational reach and effectiveness, ensuring the Navy remains a dominant force in maritime operations.” The Navy’s LCS mission modules program is a part of the Program Executive Office, Unmanned and Small Combatants portfolio, which designs, develops, builds, and delivers the Navy’s unmanned maritime systems; mine warfare systems; special warfare systems; expeditionary warfare systems; and small surface combatants. Really glad to see this effort. As a former Textron Defense Systems employee, I worked in the integration of shore based unattended ground sensors with the Textron CUSV as depicted to provide potential mission readiness before the Pan Pacific Littoral conversation became a popular conversation. We wanted to add additional mission packages other than mine applications & shore ISR seemed a natural fit. Lessons learned were many, but large takeaways focused on the need to test in all types of conditions weather and geography wise. No there is a large focus on the RF Spectrum to allow consistent EW dominance. #flyingisntflightest #IFF #Truweathersolutions

We're proud to be #PushingPastPossible in support of the US Navy's mission!

The deployment of low-cost guided munitions from unmanned platforms shows the US Navy's innovative steps being taken to enhance operational reach and effectiveness. It’s exciting to see how these advancements are ensuring the Navy’s maritime superiority and readiness in collaboration with allies and partners!
