Today, in celebration of National Coming Day 2024 we have put together a blog that highlights the complexities of coming out for LGBTQ+ individuals. It shares the stories of three individuals – Luna, Josh, and Charlotte, who face the challenges of navigating both their LGBTQ+ identities and additional factors such as race, neurodiversity, and mental health. The blog underscores that coming out isn't a singular event but a continuous journey, particularly when these intersecting identities come into play. Older adults and people with disabilities face extra challenges being part of the LGBTQ+ population in the way of finding connections. Across all subsegments of the LGBTQ+ community, people report being more isolated, less financially secure, and often without the same level of familial support as others who are not part of the queer community may have. When you add aging or disability, when you need those extra supports, it can be extra challenging. But while challenging just talking about the issues presents an opportunity to consider what more we can do to ensure our programs and services are truly equitable and inclusive—and recommit to taking action. #pride #pride2024

Coming out is a continuous journey. With many layers of our identities, people can sometimes find it difficult to navigate through the complex intersections of their being. This is a good read article, especially on doing intersectional discussions. Each identity should have equal time to be explored and stories from these identities should be heard. #PrideAdvocacy #Pride #LGBTQIA #DEI #LifeLongLearner #NationalComingOut
