Happy #InternationalDayofFamilies! Family unity, a fundamental human right, should be accessible to refugees no matter where they come from or where their families are located. RefugePoint works to expand solutions to reunite refugee families and make family reunification more accessible to refugees worldwide. How is RefugePoint supporting families in 2024? -Through our Family Reunification Initiative, RefugePoint will play a leadership role in helping to reunite one million separated refugee families over the next five years. -Through the UNHCR Collaboration Project (UNCP), RefugePoint Experts work in various locations around the world to support family reunification cases. -RefugePoint’s Family Reunification Experts also help establish family reunification at the local level by developing the tools, systems, and structures necessary to institutionalize family reunification in countries of asylum, and providing training and capacity-building to other organizations to expand access to family reunification.

I'm thrilled to celebrate five years at HIAS! It's been an incredible journey working alongside dedicated colleagues and making a tangible impact on the lives of people worldwide. Here are some highlights from the past half-decade: - Crisis Response: Mobilized effective responses to the fall of Kabul, the war in Ukraine, and the Israel-Hamas conflict. We raised upwards of $1 million for humanitarian aid and facilitated the formation of 34 local private sponsorship groups to welcome over 100 individual refugees in California. - Policy Wins: Successfully advocated for policy and funding wins for HIAS' four California resettlement affiliates through strategic partnerships with organizations like Jewish Public Affairs Committee of California (JPAC) and the CHIRLA-led CA Welcomes Coalition. This resulted in securing $8 million over three years for asylee case management, putting up strong fronts to secure state support for asylum shelter programs at the border. - Partnership Expansion: Grew HIAS' reach by recruiting JFCS of Long Beach/West Orange County to become our newest California resettlement partner to earn U.S. Department of State approval to welcome newcomers. - Advocacy and Education: Designed and implemented numerous advocacy and educational programs to empower individuals to take action on behalf of refugees. These initiatives have had a profound impact on raising awareness and fostering support for our cause. While reflecting on our achievements, it's clear that the refugees, asylum seekers, and other forcibly displaced people are increasingly politicized worldwide, making our work more crucial than ever. WRC statement: Together against hate At the Welsh Refugee Council, we are profoundly heartbroken by the recent surge in far-right extremism and the violence directed at sanctuary seekers, refugees, those with migration heritage, and advice workers. Racism, Islamophobia, and hostile language have no place in our society. Amidst these troubling times, we are incredibly proud of how Wales, as a Nation of Sanctuary, has united in standing against those who seek to divide us. Our communities and partner organisations have shown extraordinary solidarity and bravery, making it clear that hatred has no place here. We stand with all those affected—men, women, and children who have already endured so much. The government's condemnation of these attacks is important, but we need more immediate action. We call on funders and the government to invest urgently in vital sanctuary support services, and community building work. We ask our new UK Government, to renounce hostile language, that can often perpetuate click bait headlines and normalise racism. We are committed to creating lasting change and encourage organisations to work with us to combat misinformation and strengthen understanding.
