Are you familiar with Axial spondyloarthritis (axial SpA)? Most aren’t, as it works silently. Axial SpA is an inflammatory arthritis where the main symptom is back pain. It mainly affects the spine but can also affect other joints, tendons and ligaments. 1 in 200 of the adult population in the UK have axial SpA (AS). We are overjoyed to share the incredible news that, collectively, we have raised an outstanding 5 lacs over the past month Running for a Cause ! 🙌   This achievement is not just a testament to our generosity but also a celebration of the unity and camaraderie that defines our incredible community. What makes this accomplishment even more special for Molecular Connections is the fact that it brought us all together in a fun and engaging way.   Our first health challenge of the year, part of the #CEOWellnessDrive, was not only about stepping up to the plate for a good cause but also about fostering a sense of togetherness and well-being. #MCiANs dedication to the challenge and enthusiastic participation have turned what could have been a simple fundraising initiative into a resounding success! It's not just about the funds; it's about the shared commitment to making difference and building an impactful community around us.   All the proceeds from this remarkable endeavour are going directly to a blind school, illuminating the path for those who face unique challenges. We are so grateful for your ongoing support.   Your fund raising helped us deliver on two vital projects recently: we are amplifying SEND voices in the Press and expanding our reach to help Welsh SEND parents. Thank you for helping more SEND children to get the education they deserve through these initiatives.    Our survey ‘Fighting for your SEND child: the Hidden Costs’ revealed that a shocking 3 in 4 parents of SEND children have their working life significantly affected. Additional demands in and out of school, put extra pressure on parental time and finances. Sky, BBC and nearly 100 other news outlets have reported on our findings. This is vital in pushing SEND challenges up the political agenda. Our 'Noddy No-nonsense Welsh Guide to ALN law' addresses the new Additional Learning Needs (ALN) system which being introduced in Wales. We are expanding our reach to help the SEND families in Wales with this transition and in interpreting the new law. With our partners Civitas Barristers, David Wolfe KC (Matrix), Leon Glenister (Landmark) are the first to provide legally-accurate, parent-friendly guidance.

What #fundraising lesson can hummingbird watching teach us? On a recent episode of Shark Tank, a couple came to pitch their product, the HummViewer. It's a plastic mask that has three hummingbird feeders that you wear so you can get a literal bird's eye view of these tiny birds. It's a niche product with a very limited audience. But this couple was passionate about the idea and it was felt in their pitch. This could have easily been dismissed, but the Sharks one by one kindly thanked the couple and said that famous phrase, "I'm out." You could see the gradual disappointment on the inventor's face. Except there was one Shark left. He told the story about how his parents loved hummingbirds and when his dad passed away, he and his family saw a hummingbird fly in front of his parents' home one last time. So, every time he sees a hummingbird, he thinks of his father. He made an offer and the rest, as they say, is history. What's the #fundraising moral here? This couple pitched their idea to all of the Sharks. After all, the Sharks have money and they're looking to invest. But the one who really got hooked had a deep personal connection to this very specialized interest. He's the one who invested. So often #nonprofits believe that everyone could be a donor to their important cause because the organization exists. And with 1.5 million nonprofits in the U.S. there's way too much overlap and many, many niche missions. But if this Shark Tank pitch shows us anything (aside from how not to pitch), it's that the people who ultimately invest do so because they personally connect with the organization. Stop chasing after everyone who has money. Focus on the ones who align with what you do. They're the ones who will give at whatever amount they can. And once they become investors in your mission, ask them their story and their connection to your cause.
