“How does Meritas help young professionals build real investment skills and merit-based portfolios that land them high-paying jobs?” For context, a lot of thoughtful research and risk management is involved when you scale positions to build fundamental long-short portfolios in the real world. Those skills are very difficult to quantify without an auditor track record, which is the gold standard for hiring portfolio managers and analysts in our industry.  I have hired and fired thousands of portfolio managers as an investor in the last 15 years; none had an auditor track record because their employers owned their portfolios. That's a problem in our industry. That makes it difficult for, let’s say, a sales assistant to jump to an investment management position. Or if you start in healthcare and biotech, it makes it difficult to switch your sector. What Is Company Analysis In VC? When assessing a pipeline company or a portfolio company, a Venture Capital Analyst or Associate should consider the following factors: - Overview of Company (location, product/service, industry) - Team (management - experience, credentials, expertise) - Funding (investors, funding amount, stage, dates, ESOP, cap table) - Finance (KPIs) - R&D (patents, 3rd party tech) - Product/Market Fit - Market Trends Overall, the purpose of the company analysis is to help the reader with a quick overview to understand the company and determine if it is a suitable candidate for the fund to move forward with further negotiations. #analysis #VC #research

Nothing beats in-person meetings. Like so many, our industry has moved away from face-to-face meetings over the last few years. They are however central to recruitment. The best I have worked with spent most of their time out of the office cultivating relationships, gathering information and being inquisitive. Our recent trip to Edinburgh was great for both of the above. We met clients from the asset management space, software houses, fintechs and renewable energy.
