Knock Knoxville... Who's there? Just 420,263 people in a 30-mile radius likely to need hip or knee services this year. It's not about that number... Or the fact that I just offended my proud Knoxville friends with that terrible joke. Its about HOW we know this. It's all about our opt-in consumer insights. We use it to build personas based on people's attributes and behaviors: Ages, lifestyles, sports and activities, purchase patterns, apps downloaded and more. For example, we know that likely (and qualified) total joint patients are: over the age of 50, have active lifestyles (including golf, tennis, yoga, pickleball, etc.) and about 12 other demographic and psychographic data points... We link the persona to a geography, such as this 30 mile radius around Knockville and *POOF* we have our audience: these 420,263 individuals. We serve ads directly to these people for your services, in the places where they already go online… Without them ever performing a search. WHY? ➡️ Because the best way to influence consumer bahavior is to be in front of your most-likely audience, on repeat, without them performing a search. In March of this year, this exact strategy generated 228 new patients for one orthopedic practice. This past weekend I began my journey to overcome my fear of heights and falling. Using a climber tree stand I achieved increasing heights with the help of a safety harness and complete safety system. Not everyone can be strapped into a safety harness/system to eliminate the risk of falling. Reducing falls and future fall risk is a huge goal for my patients, especially those who have acquired wrist fractures and assorted other injuries. Understanding current research and what we can do as practitioners to help is critical. Additionally, performance-based assessments of gait and balance have found significant associations between dynamic balance and falls. Considering these intrinsic factors, there is evidence that determinants of falls are mostly related to internal variables related to the elderly. These factors increase the likelihood of producing fear of potential falls in the near future. However, it is of note that fear and risk of falling are two distinct factors. Fear of falling (or a lack thereof) is related to the psychological level of individuals with regard to performing daily activities. On the other hand, risk of falling is related to the ability or inability to safely perform tasks with adequate levels of balance. Greater levels indicate balance capacity, and thus, lower risk of falling. WOW! What a great week. Taxing for sure (see what I did there?), but totally fulfilling. I'm in Eastern PA this week helping a family member get through hip replacement surgery. What a ride for him. I'm exhausted and all I did was make visits to the hospital and get the house ready for his return to home so he'll be safe. Imagine, I didn't have the surgery. I dont have to do the recovery. My Uncle is a ROCKSTAR! While I was at the hospital, listening to the AMAZING caregivers (Nurses and Physical/Occupational Therapists are the BEST!), I started thinking about the parallels between caregiving and consulting. Three themes for me: - Listen Well: You cant know how to help if you don't listen to what they need. Patient or Client. - Be honest and frank: You have to sometimes give advice your client might not be ready to hear, but you know it's in their best interest based on your experience. - Be empathetic: Everyone is going through something. Understand the total situation as much as possible. Be there to help THEM to be successful. That requires true compassion and empathy. - OH, and I forgot to mention it in the video: Use your sense of humor. Help people laugh. It builds trust and camaraderie and helps remove the stress of the moment. That's all. Thanks for listening.
