"What is one piece of advice you'd give your younger self?" This message was posed by a Summer 2024 Cirrus Intern in a group chat of 42 incoming students. First, let's recognize the confidence and vulnerability it took to ask this question in a group of strangers. Second, let's take a look at some of the responses: -"Keep moving forward." -"No amount of money ever bought a second of time." -"The grass is greener where you water it." -"Make time for those close to you because tomorrow is not guaranteed." -"Remember where you started." -"Every day is sunny if you get above the clouds." Not only did this chat feed remind me why I love working with the student programs at Cirrus Aircraft, but it made me grateful. I'm grateful for an organization that recognizes and nurtures the potential of emerging talent, knowing that these incoming students will shape the future. As professionals, it's easy to get comfortable in our routines and ways of thinking. There is immense value in stepping back and learning from the vibrant minds of the new generation of students entering our fields. Fresh perspective matters. To the 2024 Cirrus Aircraft Intern Cohort joining us soon, we can't wait to meet you!

At BEN, we’re all about seeking new ways to expand learning opportunities for public school teachers and students. New things we introduced into our 2023 programs: collaborations with Bermuda Zoological Society and Planet Math to reduce transportation costs, four new field trip expeditions around the island, an expansion to our BEN Book Club for 4-5 year olds and increased professional development offerings for teachers.   However, the real game changer has been our summer reading program. This is an intervention program targeting students in Grade 2 who have not fully mastered phonics and the alphabetic code. With limited spaces available to just one year group, we wondered how this summer program could make more impact on reading challenges in schools. Our solution: to create five paid internships for education undergraduates giving them first-hand experience of evidence-based reading teaching methods.  We couldn’t have done this without the support of our summer program host, Somersfield Academy Bermuda and the generous support of Fortitude Re and Centennial Bermuda Foundation.  Innovation isn’t just a buzzword: it’s the backbone of our mission to build a professional learning community that expands opportunities for Bermuda’s public school teachers and students. #schoolsuccess #educationalleadership #bermuda

🔦💡Spotlight on Daniel, one of our amazing Teens In Public Service (TiPS) interns for our Summer Academy program. We are lucky to have a great relationship with TiPS and their incredible youth leaders. Meet Daniel, a local role model with a passion for community building: 🏗What interests you about public service? What interest me most about public service is making a difference in my own and others' communities. 📚What do you enjoy about working the Summer Academy Program at ASC? I enjoy the fact that it’s obvious everyone puts in effort whether it’s staff organizing stuff or students working hard. 🔮️What do you want your future in public service to look like? I want to be a leader of communities and support positive change. ⚽️Tell us about a hobby of yours when you are not working! A hobby I really enjoy is sports from watching them to playing them. My favorites are soccer, basketball, and football.

BetaNYC and the CUNY Public Interest Technology Lab (CUNY PIT Lab) propose working with New York City area employers to develop a Public Interest Technology apprenticeship program that targets underserved communities in New York City with workforce development opportunities. The apprenticeship program would feature a deep understanding of New York City history/civics, how to leverage municipal data, API manipulation, data analytics, data storytelling, event organizing, public space surveying, project management, public speaking, and community leadership skills.   NYC’s Workforce Development Corporation funding would help us refine our decade-long Civic Innovation Fellows program into a proper apprenticeship program. Additionally, it would help us refine our Mapping for Equity program and expand it to include other open-technology tools like air and water sensors.   We are applying as a planning project and seek your support through a planning/research process. This process requests your participation in interviews and/or workshops.   This planning project will give us a broad understanding of how we can support the professional development of our future apprentices. At this time, you are not committing to hire anyone.   You will find two documents attached. The first outlines what we’re considering doing (New America Article). The second is a template we need you to fill out and send back on your letterhead with a signature.   We have a tight deadline and need all documents ready for submission on the night of May 17th.   https://lnkd.in/dwF5BTZJ
