About us

Anglian Water supply water and water recycling services to more than six million domestic and business customers in the east of England and Hartlepool. Our services are at the heart of every single family and community in our region. We clean water to the highest standard, deliver it to millions of homes, and carefully manage it to ensure it never runs out. We’re the largest water and water recycling company in England and Wales by geographic area. We’re also one of the driest regions in the country, with just 600 millimetres of rain each year, on average a third less than the rest of England. In fact some areas have a lower annual rainfall than Jerusalem. That’s why it’s vital that we look after the water that we’ve got.

Meet Graham, known as G by his colleagues and friends, who’s celebrating an incredible 65 years with Anglian Water! 👏😊 In over half a century he’s seen a lot of changes in advancing engineering and tech….from mobile phones, to the rise of the internet, to household appliances like dishwashers. G and his team of water technicians have adapted to the changing world by using the latest tech and always looking to find new and better ways to keep taps flowing and toilets flushing – now and for the future. G recently celebrated his 80th birthday and has been thinking about his time and legacy with us… “There’s a real care for employees here and I have a purpose. At Anglian Water, you come to work and feel like you’re carrying out a good service and you’re recognised for what you do. It’s really supportive, there’s opportunities here and I think that’s why a lot of people stay for a long time.” A big thank you to G for his passion and dedication to loving every drop. As the fastest growing region in the UK, we recycle a lot of water – in fact, over a billion litres of sewage every day! But as the population continues to grow and our sewer networks are processing more human and domestic waste, we’re always looking for more natural solutions. Treatment wetlands are a key part of our vision for the future, following the successful launch of our flagship wetland in Ingoldisthorpe, Norfolk in 2019. Delivered in partnership with NORFOLK RIVERS TRUST, it was the first of its kind in England. Five years on, we took our CEO Mark Thurston to see how much has changed. Now operating as a natural treatment plant for millions of litres of water, these wetlands have become a beautiful habitat and a flourishing haven for wildlife 🌱☀ Currently under review, our 2025-2030 business plan, proposes a record investment of £4 billion to enhance the environment, which includes building more treatment wetlands across our region. Now the warmer weather has arrived and you may be spending more time outside, you might come across the natural phenomenon that is algal blooms. Strangely similar in appearance, algal blooms can often be mistaken for storm spills, caused by our sewer network. But as outlined in our latest blog, this isn’t the case ➡ https://lnkd.in/eHbtjNnt Although these blooms are non-toxic, it’s important to report any sightings so we can investigate further and determine whether it is in fact a naturally occurring bloom or a problem in our network. We take our responsibility to the environment very seriously and have committed to ensuring our assets are not the cause of harm to society or the environment. Our water supply isn’t infinite and as temperatures rise and the population continues to grow, there is a pressing need to think differently about how we can protect our most precious resource.   Large scale investment in water resilience has been taking place across our region since the 1990’s, but more needs to be done. Which is why, as part of our latest business plan, we’ve proposed our biggest ever investment into water infrastructure, totalling almost £1.5bn. Discussions are still underway with Ofwat, but securing the right level of investment will be critical in the delivery of the infrastructure the East of England needs to grow and thrive.   In our latest blog, Anglian Water’s Head of Supply Demand Strategy, Geoff Darch, discusses how we’re developing new supplies of water and investing in securing a water supply for generations to come. We’ll always take the time to understand your situation and treat you with care and kindness. "I know that a collection occupation isn't an easy one. I'm sure that you all get so much disrespect when you are only doing a job to take care of your families. I liked Liane because I did not feel any aggression during our conversation. I like that, and that's why I gave a 10-star rating. Stay cool, Liane!" Customer feedback 🙌 We look after the people that look after you. Ahead of the Environment Agency, publishing its Environmental Performance Assessment (EPA) next week, we wanted to explain what exactly an EPA rating is and how it’s decided. While it does account for things such as total pollution incidents and discharge permit compliance, it doesn’t consider other factors like reduction of average storm spills or abstraction levels and biodiversity net gain. We know how important these measures are to our customers, communities, passionate river groups and regulators and, with that in mind, we wanted to highlight the great progress that's been made in these areas as a result of the significant investment we’ve made to accelerate our improvement in pollutions performance. We have achieved the lowest level of sewer blockages in five years, have had no serious pollutions from our network of sewers in 14 months and are continuing to roll out smart sewers at a rapid pace to ensure we can predict and prevent more incidents event faster. But it doesn't stop there.  We recently announced an additional £100 million provision from our shareholders that will be ploughed into smart technology, the creation of a 'spills taskforce' and improvements across our sewer network. This is in addition to the planned investment across our water recycling network and will take our total this year to almost half a billion pounds. Change of this scale takes time, but we're committed to doing right by our customers and the environment. https://lnkd.in/eaUCAmN3 CC: The Water Report #Investment #DoThingsDifferently

Nature-based solutions such as floodplains, are just one of the ways we can mitigate the risk of flooding and protect our region against extreme weather. Which is why, we're thrilled to have supported NORFOLK RIVERS TRUST with this restoration project💧 #Flooding #NatureBasedSolutions #Environment

Flourishing floodplains fill our hearts with joy! 🌿 For the first time in over 400 years, water flows onto these natural floodplains once more. Our project to create a new meandering channel, following its historic path, has been a tremendous success. Wetland habitats are thriving, as is the wildlife that calls it home. Dynamic rivers that spill onto functional floodplains and replenish wetlands in high flows are essential for mitigating the impact of climate breakdown and extreme weather. 💦 This project was completed in collaboration with Holkham, Charles Rangeley-Wilson OBE and Aquamaintain Ltd. With thanks to funding support from the #GreenRecoveryChallengeFund, Anglian Water Services and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. More info here: https://lnkd.in/enX9vPqA

Rivers are the lifeblood of our communities, and we know there is more to be done to improve and protect them. Which is why, we made a commitment to Get River Positive (GRP) with a series of pledges focused on improving river health and ensuring our assets are not a cause of harm for the environment🌍🌳 Since GRP began, we’ve been working on a vast programme of work, all with one goal in mind, improving river health. Working with river groups, farmers and passionate environmentalists, projects have ranged from nature-based solutions to funded citizen science and the creation of new wetlands and habitats. However, we know the hard work doesn’t stop there, which is why many of these projects will also be replicated in our five-year business plan from 2025-2030. The business plan we submitted, detailed a record investment of £4 billion to enhance the environment, which included, almost £600 million on our Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP), £61 million on reducing flood risk and £308 million on resilience. We are currently reviewing Ofwat’s draft determination. In our latest blog, Anglian Water’s GRP Comms and Engagement Manager Katie Teesdale-Ward shares an update on the hive of activity that is GRP. Chief Executive Officer at Anglian Water, whose purpose is to bring environmental and social prosperity to the region it serves through its commitment to ‘love every drop’.

The first nine days in my new role at Anglian Water Services have been pretty full-on, so it came as a welcome change on day ten to get out on site with Ian Hutchinson and some of his team from the Anglian Water @one Alliance. The alliance will have its biggest year in 2024/25, delivering nearly £400m of investment across dozens of projects across our network to increase the capacity and resilience of our service to customers. We visited the water recycling facility at Broadholme, where £30m is being invested to expand water recycling capability to serve the nearby towns of Rushden and Wellingborough. Much of the construction activity looks pretty familiar, but I was struck by the complexity of the process elements of the work, which will be an interesting and new area for me to learn! #waterrecycling #waterinfrastructure #capitalprojects
