In collaboration with Sustainability Unlocked, Net Zero Tracker co-lead Camilla Hyslop delves into the commitments of the fossil fuel industry which despite setting the largest number of targets, those commitments are largely meaningless as they do not include plans to change the business models, from black to green. Investigating the broader trend of vast credibility gaps in net zero targets, Camilla clarifies the coverage of scope that renders a climate target meaningful. A huge thanks to the team at Sustainability Unlocked here, Bhargav Kannan, Prasad Gollakota, CFA, MAICD Gollakota and Nadine Habib. ICYMI the Net Zero Tracker’s data lead Camilla Hyslop sat down with the team at Sustainability Unlocked to discuss the climate commitments of the fossil fuel industry, a sector which despite setting the largest number of targets, lack the plans needed to transition from black to green, rendering these targets as meaningless. Investigating the widespread trend of credibility gaps in the landscape of net zero targets, Camilla illuminates how coverage across all emissions scopes is a critical factor that can help to move a target from intent to integrity. See more below: Our latest analysis also investigates the integrity of the climate commitments of some of the world’s largest companies. Take a look below. https://lnkd.in/eyQp-XHE

In co-production with Sustainability Unlocked, Natasha Lutz breaks down how exactly the Net Zero Tracker collects the key information which is used to measure the integrity of climate commitments across countries, sub nationals and companies. Natasha Lutz explains the indicators of integrity that the NZT measures targets against: starting with type & status, coverage, governance measures, and plans for emission reductions. If you’re interested in how exactly we evaluate net zero targets here at the Net Zero Tracker, see below for more: https://lnkd.in/eG8tgNrP Also, please take a look below to find out more on how the net zero targets of the world’s biggest companies measure up against our indicators of integrity here: https://lnkd.in/eyQp-XHE A huge thanks to the team at Sustainability Unlocked for all of their work and expertise on these films. As someone who’s recently joined the sustainability domain at Unravel Carbon, I’ve been diving deep into a variety of resources to deepen my understanding of sustainability and climate change. To say the least, it’s been extremely inspiring! There’s so much exciting work happening in this space (EV's, Alternate Fuels, Regulations ... all of it!) but ... It's also been eye-opening ... collectively we all still have quite a journey and lots of action (not just pledges!) ahead to achieve net-zero targets. Here are three sources that have been particularly helpful for me to wrap my head around this space: 1. ESG Today: https://lnkd.in/gznXZdtK 2. Bloomberg Green: https://lnkd.in/gfigFXJp 3. Unravel Carbon’s Newsletter: https://lnkd.in/g2X8pWQJ If you've got any other great sources, I’d love to hear about them!

South Pole’s latest Net Zero Report ‘Destination Zero’ is a must read to understand the current state of corporate climate action and ambition, including who is setting net zero targets and why. Insights from 1,400 global sustainability executives tell us what drives climate commitments, what they view as risks, what solutions they’re prioritising, and how their organisations are progressing on their net zero strategies. Download it here: https://lnkd.in/eGn8HmUS Our key learnings ? 👉 Brand leadership and reputation are no more the primary drivers of climate action. Corporates act because their customers expect it and because a sustainable supply chain is key 👉 when investing in specific projects, Nature based solutions belong to the top choices. Planting trees remains the most efficient solution 👉 8% of the companies have climate targets. Unfortunately these role models are scared to communicate because of bad press. The media have a huge responsibility by punishing the goods and saying nothing about 92% bads and uglies. Have a good read!
