Another day, another wild electrified aircraft concept that reimagines the future of air travel in a way that fascinates and enthralls. This time around, it isn't a straight eVTOL serving as protagonist, but a hybrid that tilts its ducted electric fans to offer helicopter versatility with airplane range and efficiency. Technically identified as a hybrid-electric vertical and short takeoff and landing (HeV/STOL) vessel, the newly modeled ANN Plus uses a turbine-electric powertrain to more economically bridge the gap between traditional air and ground transportation options. We've come to expect crazy, new electrified aircrafts to come from China by default, but Manta Aircraft is actually an Italian company, based in the northern region of Lombardy. That doesn't mean it's without connection to China, however, as it recently partnered up with Shenyang Aviation Industries Group with an eye toward accelerating development of its multi-craft ANN platform as a regional air mobility solution for the Chinese and South Asian markets. It's not surprising, then, that Manta debuted the latest member of the ANN series at the 2024 China Airshow last month, following up on the compact ANN1 and ANN2 with a full-scale model of its largest variant yet, the ANN Plus. The new ANN Plus, also called the ANN-6, is a multipurpose six-seat craft aimed at personal mobility, business travel, medical response, and cargo transport. It's designed to accommodate a single pilot and five passengers. Continue reading:

I still have my doubts about Lillium's ability to deliver. I had a conversation with some ducted fan manufacturers at the #tvf2024 and their prognosis was not positive. The primary concern continues to be the power-hungry propulsion and lack of adequate battery energy availability. Uncertainty and skepticism continues to be fueled by short duration demonstration/test flights. I guess only time will tell. https://lnkd.in/eYPFCXSc "The aircraft’s ducted-fan design will consume roughly twice as much power during vertical take-offs and landings as its propeller-powered rivals – an estimated 2,147kW versus 1,014kW" From https://lnkd.in/eEBuYYtM "In a recent blog post, McIntosh points out that yes, the Lilium design, with its small ducted fans and high disc loading (a ratio of overall weight to the area of the rotors), uses twice as much power in a hover than a similar weight design with larger tilting rotors... Lilium will lose a significant amount of efficiency in the hover phase due to its small rotors and high disc loading. Hence, Lilium doesn't talk much about urban air mobility – cross-town air taxi rides – and is much more interested in regional air mobility – inter-city jaunts up to 200 km (124 miles) at launch, with speeds up to 300 km/h (186 mph) and only a minute or so of flight time spent in the vertical lift configuration in which they're at an energy disadvantage. The Jobys and Volocopters can rule the cities; Lilium wants to be your long-distance eVTOL of choice." From https://lnkd.in/eWAEfa6E

eVTOL - have you heard of it? 🚁 Mobility is evolving daily, and something to look out for is eVTOL. It's an evolution from an already existing technology, from the likes of the iconic Harrier Jump Jet, F-35 Lightning and of course, helicopters. It simply stands for Vertical Take Off & Landing, allowing the vehicle/aircraft to take to the skies from the same spot that it's parked in. So essentially it would be like "flying cars" but with a bit more to it. How can this integrate into the modern world? Well in a number of ways, reducing congestion on roads, zero-emissions short to medium distance travel. Think of driving along a highway, but instead of being on the ground, you'd be slightly elevated moving along a lot quicker. Is it safe? A topic that will be at the very top of the concerns list, well that's to be seen but if we follow general aviation trends, Air Travel is considered to be the safest modes of travel, due to strict maintenance and safety regulations. Companies like Archer are already turning something futuristic into a reality. What do you think, 4 wheels on the ground, on speed through the sky? Article below if you fancy a 30 second read. 👇 #eVTOL #sustainability #futuremobility

How will Eve Air Mobility redefine urban air travel with this milestone partnership? Eve Air Mobility has signed a letter of intent with Helicopters Inc, a leading vertical lift operator in the U.S., to deliver up to 50 electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. This agreement also includes service support and Vector, Eve’s urban air traffic management (ATM) software, reinforcing both companies’ commitment to advancing urban air mobility (UAM). The collaboration, announced during the Revolution.Aero advanced air mobility conference, builds on a prior partnership between Eve and Helicopters Inc. In 2022, the two companies conducted a simulation in Chicago to explore future eVTOL operations, offering a glimpse into the potential of sustainable and efficient air travel. “Eve Air Mobility’s maturity and reliability, backed by Embraer, was a key factor in our decision to select Eve for our future eVTOL aircraft,” said Tom Wagner, president of Helicopters Inc. He emphasized the operational cost advantages, environmental benefits, and reduced noise footprint of eVTOL technology. Eve’s state-of-the-art eVTOL aircraft features a lift+cruise design, fixed wings, and redundant electric propulsion, ensuring safety and performance. The partnership also gives Helicopters Inc. access to Eve TechCare, a comprehensive operational solution, and Vector, an advanced ATM software for managing UAM operations. Megha B., chief commercial officer at Eve Air Mobility, expressed enthusiasm: “We appreciate Helicopters Inc.’s confidence in Eve. Their extensive operations across 30 U.S. metropolitan areas make them a perfect partner to help scale our eVTOL deployment.” Eve and Helicopters Inc. will refine strategies for launch cities, maintenance needs, and infrastructure requirements to support safe, efficient operations. Potential use cases include airport shuttles and point-to-point connections. How do you see eVTOL technology transforming urban air mobility in the coming years? CRISALION Mobility, a Spanish electric mobility solutions developer, announced a significant agreement with Wilbur Air for a pre-order of 100 Integrity Aircraft. This milestone deal, signed at the Farnborough International Airshow (FIA), marks a pivotal step in Australia’s sustainable aviation journey by integrating zero-emissions aircraft into its transport infrastructure. Notably, this partnership is CRISALION's first commercial agreement within the Australian market. The Integrity Aircraft, an eVTOL currently in development by CRISALION, is designed to accommodate up to five passengers and a pilot. Aimed at urban and inter-city transport, it will cater to various purposes, including cargo, urban mobility, emergency services, and tourism. The aircraft is expected to travel 130 km at cruising speeds of 180 km/h, with a 400 kg payload, while producing minimal noise. Carlos Poveda Rey, Founder and CEO of CRISALION Mobility, expressed his enthusiasm: “We are delighted to partner with one of Australia’s foremost AAM pioneers. Together, we will develop an urban mobility solution that will transform cities and lives across the country.” Clem Newton-Brown OAM, CEO of Wilbur Air, added, “We are very excited about the prospect of having CRISALION Mobility’s eVTOLs operating out of our vertiports under the Wilbur Air brand.” The Integrity Aircraft features CRISALION’s FlyFree technology, a patented propulsion system enabling control of the aircraft’s movements in all directions. The advanced system incorporates 16 motors arranged in two arms on each side of the aircraft. Each arm can independently adjust its thrust vector in both pitch and roll, utilizing the differential thrust of the motors. Supported by sophisticated control technology and a dedicated rotor design for aerodynamic efficiency, stability, precision, and cabin control, FlyFree ensures a superior passenger experience. Significant investments in engineering and flight testing have been crucial to the success of this technology.
