You've seen the Black Friday deals flooding your feed - and yes, no doubt you'll be able to pick up a bargain or two. But this Black Friday, here at Salcombe Brewery, we're doing things a bit differently. Instead of slashing prices, we're giving back by donating 10% of profits to a cause very close to our hearts - Devon Environment Foundation. The Devon Environment Foundation [DEF] provides grants for grassroots projects that regenerate nature in our home county. Some of the projects that they have recently awarded funds to include ‘Save our Seagrass’, ‘Devon Birds’ Swift Boxes’ and ‘South Hams Marine Life Rescue’. DEF is a member of the Conservation Collective, a global network of locally-focused environmental foundations, facilitating funding for the most effective grassroots environmental initiatives, with world-class oversight, management and programme aid. We strongly believe that businesses can make a positive impact, and our partnership with the Devon Environment Foundation is a step toward supporting local environmental initiatives. We're passionate about preserving our beautiful Devon and ensuring a greener future for generations to come. We'd like to welcome back all of our community members - environmental organizations, business partners, Eco-Enthusiasts, and supporters - to another year dedicated to environmental work within our state. As a reminder for everyone, EarthShare Texas is a nonprofit federation that supports local environmental and conservation charities across the Lone Star State. Together, we have a collective impact on preserving our natural resources and creating a healthier Texas for all. Through collaborative fundraising and partnership building, EarthShare Texas empowers mission-driven members to pursue positive environmental and health impacts in a variety of the state's regions. We invest in our members because we believe that strong environmental programs result in a healthier Texas community - one that appreciates and safeguards the natural resources and beauty of the state for the good of us all. We've grown a lot over the years, and with each evolution, we learn a little bit more about how better to serve our members and our state. EarthShare Texas was founded as the Environmental Fund for Texas in 1992 and later became an affiliate organization of EarthShare. Today our organization represents more than 70 leading local, state, national, and international environmental organizations. We have a 30-year history of working with businesses to fundraise for environmental nonprofits and have evolved our strategies to remain relevant to businesses, employees, and consumers. From 1992 to 2023, EarthShare Texas has raised over $21 million for our member organizations! As an environmental publicist, I'm proud to be part of a network of change-makers —today and every day. That’s why we give back 1% of all sales, not profits, to our 1% for the Planet Environmental Partner Eco House Global. Eco House specializes in developing programs and initiatives related to policy-making, ecological restoration, and environmental education in schools. The Influential PR team chose to work with Eco House because of the programs they are working on in Argentina. If you know me, you know Argentina is near and dear to my heart – we even have some team members in Buenos Aires! With our donation, Eco House can further fund their socio-environmental efforts that help many in the local community and protect critical spaces. Did you know that environmental nonprofit donations account for only 3% of the world’s total nonprofit donations? In 2002, the founder of Patagonia started 1% for the Planet to connect businesses to high-impact environmental nonprofits and close the funding gap. The membership is unique in that it’s made to work for everyone, from individuals (yes, individuals can be members!) to small businesses to large corporations. Earth Day celebrations! For those who don't know the history; Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by  including 1 billion people in more than 193 countries. 🌏 The idea for Earth Day came about when US Senator Gaylord Nelson witnessed the effect of the Santa Barbara oil spill in 1969. At the time, the Santa Barbara oil spill was the largest disaster of its kind in American history. Within a ten-day period, an estimated 80,000 to 100,000 barrels of crude oil spilled into the Channel, and onto the beaches of Santa Barbara County in Southern California. 🌏 Earth Day 2024 celebrations worldwide aim to utilise educational programmes which will inform people about how they can protect the environment, and look after the world’s natural resources.   Previously, Australia focused on the Great Barrier Reef and raised awareness of the mass coral bleaching - a result of rising sea temperatures. Bleaching events were organised in an effort to significantly reduce the damage caused, which is a direct result of climate change. In Australia, Earth Day 2024 will be observed to raise awareness of global climate change as people come together to act to save Mother Earth! As an avid gardener, I know firsthand how vital bees are to our food production and the overall health of our ecosystem. Their role in pollination is crucial for our gardens and crops. Our oceans cover more than 70% of the Earth's surface and contain more than 90% of all living creatures. Happy World Oceans Day Weekend! Today, we celebrate the beauty and importance of our oceans, and the vital work being done to protect them. One organization making a significant impact is EarthShare, particularly through their 30x30 Project. This initiative aims to increase awareness for 30x30 and build the desire and momentum for authentic activism. The 30x30 Project offers an interactive educational microsite where visitors can learn about core environmental solutions implemented by on-the-ground nonprofits across the United States. TNC Australia, WWF-Australia, The Pew Charitable Trusts and Australian Land Conservation Alliance jointly released the Pathways to 30x30 report on how Australia can meet its commitment to protecting at least 30% of its land by 2030. Authored by practitioners, scientists and policy experts, the report provides a clear blueprint the Australian Government can use to increase the protection of Australia’s unique nature. Protecting 30% of our land isn’t simply about protecting any 30% , it’s about protecting the right areas using a science-based approach. Australia has been a leader in this approach and it holds us in good stead to meet the 30x30 commitment, but increased investment is required to tackle this complex conservation challenge. As the only registered forester on staff, and likely the only registered forester in all of mid-rev cycle, I will take any chance I can to talk about plants! The first value, the original value, and the lifeblood of Norwood is “Deep Roots, Strong Connections”. A forest ecosystem is importantly linked to microbiota, fungi, and other biotic and abiotic factors beneath the soil. Much of the time, sick looking leaves are actually indicators of invisible root problems beneath the soil. In the mid-revenue cycle, there are similar indicators that can stay hidden until they adversely influence revenue and, more importantly, quality of patient care.
