Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan Laziz Kudratov met with Acting Special Coordinator of the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investments of the United States Helaina Matza. According to the information, during the meeting, the attraction of private financing in projects for the development of transport infrastructure, geology and digitalization was discussed. It is reported that this initiative, proposed by the United States at the G7 summit, is aimed at mobilizing investments for the development of high-quality infrastructure in developing countries. The United States plans to allocate up to $200 billion over five years through grants, federal funding and private investment, and the G7 countries - up to $600 billion. Today, I had the honour of meeting with Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov to discuss the Eurasian Development Bank’s continued involvement in infrastructure projects that are essential to driving the country’s economic growth. Since the beginning of the year, EDB has financed over $900 million in investment projects across various sectors in #Kazakhstan. By the end of the year, we expect this figure to rise to $1.4–$1.6 billion, underscoring our strong commitment to supporting the region. Our investment portfolio in Kazakhstan encompasses key projects, including the implementation of advanced coal mining technologies, the construction of solar power plants, the reconstruction and expansion of the Astrakhan-Mangyshlakmain water pipeline, and the construction and reconstruction of highways. These initiatives not only strengthen Kazakhstan’s #infrastructure but also contribute to the sustainable economic development of #CentralAsia’s largest economy and the broader region. Olzhas Bektenov emphasised Kazakhstan's readiness to expand cooperation with the EDB on mutually beneficial terms and collaborate on projects that are vital to the country’s economy. The EDB is equally committed to strengthening this partnership and supporting these critical initiatives through off-budget financing and strategic alliances. The Suez Canal Economic Zone contracted 127 projects worth $2.8 billion, from July 1, 2023, to March 21, 2024, according to a statement released by the Cabinet. "61 projects, among which received final approvals, a foreign investment percentage of 49%, against initial approval of 66 projects, a foreign investment ratio of 39%"... According to the head of the economic zone of Suez Channel Walid Gamal Aldin. He added: “The period from January 2024 to now, alone has seen the contract of 37 diverse projects with an investment cost of about $894 million, 13 of which received final approval and 24 projects received initial approval.” Gamal El-din clarified that from July 1st, until March 21, 63 new companies have been established with foreign capital of 48.5%. The period from the beginning of the current year until now alone has seen the establishment of 20 new companies.

The #CARECInstitute, in partnership with the #AsianDevelopmentBank, organized a four-day workshop on Road Asset Management (RAM) for Kazakhstan from September 9 to 12, 2024. This event marked the third series of specialized workshops for Kazakhstan, following the CAREC Institute’s RAM maturity assessment conducted in 2021. The workshop attracted a diverse group of participants, including senior national officials, prominent road sector specialists, and experts from various divisions of the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan. Attendees expressed a keen interest in delving deeper into topics such as road safety, digitalization, and pricing in road construction. The workshop received positive feedback for its high quality, with suggestions for future events emphasizing the need to incorporate more practical elements and continue offering international perspectives. Mr. Bakhtiyar Zhambyl, Chairman of the Committee for Roads of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, delivered an opening speech emphasizing the significance of cultivating national expertise rooted in international best practices for the advancement of sustainable and efficient road infrastructure management in Kazakhstan. He noted that such knowledge would aid road authorities in optimizing resources, minimizing costs, and ultimately enhancing safety and connectivity—key factors in fostering economic development and regional integration. Dr. Kuat Akizhanov, Deputy Director Two of the CAREC Institute, introduced the CAREC Strategy 2030 along with the sector strategies aimed at promoting well-planned economic corridors within the CAREC Region. This strategic framework is designed to enhance economic cooperation and integration among neighboring countries and regions. Dr. Ilhom Abdulloev, Chief of the Capacity Building Division at the CAREC Institute, introduced the CAREC Corridors Performance Measurement and Monitoring tool, designed to evaluate the efficiency of CAREC transport corridors. This tool identifies the causes of delays and unnecessary costs, particularly at border crossings and intermediate stops, offering critical insights into inefficiencies. It also helps the CAREC national authorities pinpoint locations and methods to address bottlenecks, ensuring targeted and effective interventions.
