In order to fully support bedside nurses, hospitals and health systems must prioritize building up their nurse managers. By intentionally developing the skills of nurse managers, we can ensure they have the tools they need to excel each and every day. That's why I'm grateful for the work Practicing Excellence does to support our nursing partners and build up our nurse leaders. Over the last few years, hospitals and health systems have primarily focused their attention on supporting the well-being of nurses and front-line staff. Yet, new findings reveal the increasing importance of placing an equal focus on nurse managers. In an interview with Becker's Healthcare, the American Nurses Association shared its findings from a recent survey of more than 2,400 nurse leaders on their emotional health and well-being. A resounding 35% of nurse leaders reported considering leaving their role due to burnout – a parallel to what bedside nurses consistently report as the primary reason for exiting the profession. Protecting the health of the nursing workforce starts with its leaders, and as many health systems look to incorporate long-term strategies to improve nurse staffing, considering the needs and concerns of nurse managers is fundamental to successfully delivering on these efforts. https://hubs.la/Q02nnv6N0

"This matters because information is power." Angela Haynes Ferere Nurse.org thank you for this incredible piece on why celebrating nurses during Nurses' Month is essential — but it is not the same as the media calling on nurses as writers, guest editors, subject matter experts, and thought leaders year-round. We are the largest sector of the healthcare workforce who spends the most direct time with patients. We are researchers, advanced practitioners, advocates, policy makers, and experts in our fields. We have been named the "most trusted profession" by the public in Gallup polls for more than two decades "and, somehow, we are not thought of as a trusted source by national brokers of information." This year, we invite our friends and allies in the media to "call on us, trust us" as go-to sources for health and policy reporting.
