Overpowered by fear and confusion, parents feel alone and don’t know where to turn. Without support in the toughest of times, parents’ choices can lead to devastating, long-term effects for their children, future generations, and ultimately, society. Our Family Services provide the tools and training to be able to resolve conflict and we coach parents toward cooperative parenting. It's sad to know that the number of kids who will lose a loved one close to them before they turn 18 is going up year after year. As of 2023, the statistic is 1 in 10. For every 10 kids, you can assume one of them has lost a parent or sibling. And so many educators just aren't taught how to care for these students or recognize the signs of grief. When we saw more kids struggling in school after experiencing loss, we developed a training, Grief Informed Schools (GIS), to give educators the tools they need to support these kids. It has made all the difference for students like Ellie, who lost her mother and was met with amazing support from her teachers —regular check-ins, accommodations, and compassion. This year, our goal is to bring this vital training to more school districts, but we need to raise $50,000 to make it happen. Reading Trauma is real and those who experience it often have undiagnosed PTSD. Research has shown that the PTSD of those students who struggled to read is the same as intensity as combat veterans. We can provide all students with the reading instruction they need to succeed. Let’s do this! Direct Systematic Instruction works for all students.

Through a mix of strategic advocacy and legal action, we’re working to hold governments accountable for children’s health and well-being.
