A clever call ✅ ✳️ Rather than reject the current 🇪🇺EU transition timeline for sales of fossil fueled cars by 2035 it’s much better to consider a more wise, diplomatic approach Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault Group and chairman of the ACEA, must have thought. And he’s right. ✳️ Why should we try to outperform China and USA, if that will put our entire automotive industry in Europe in jeopardy ? Today we still haven’t achieved an affordable and accessible mass market EV solution, and it seems that the transition will just take longer than predicted/assumed by certain institutions. Customers are aware of this and rejecting BEV for multiple reasons. These need to be solved and eliminated first, and it’s very naiv to think this will be an easy job. ✳️ It will be vital to balance sustainability, productivity and profitability to ensure future employment and prosperity in Europe. And the word flexibity makes perfect sense here, as we should accept the reality and adapt to that in case required. New competitors from China show up with attractive products for lower prices and some of them will definitely stay. ✳️ Charging infrastructure and renewable energy production are clearly lagging behind, and it won’t be realistic to assume this will be solved everywhere in Europe untill 2035. The EU has scheduled a review in 2026 and recently issued import tariffs for Chinese EV, which also seem an inappropriate measure. In other words: The current, political position of the EU towards this complex topic can become very destructive, as Asia and USA follow a completely different path here …… 👆 ✴️ What’s your opinion about this ? Flexibility should ensure a fast transition, but also accept deviations in case for example less developed areas in Europe. Mobility and employment are vital for a healthy economy and society ! We can only make it sustainable and affordable if we do it properly…. #eu #mobility #lucademeo #acea #flexibility #competition #employment #affordable Green Tech Minds European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) Automotive Magazine Automotive News Europe Center of Automotive Management (CAM) Dr. Ivana Veljkovic Sigrid de Vries Stefan Bratzel, Prof. Dr. Arno A.
