Thanks so much for having me on your podcast, Christina Garidi, to discuss how eudaemonia/eudaimonia can guide design processes and therefore what and how we design. Here, we consider how spaces / places (and the process by which they're designed) can precipitate human flourishing. The takeaways? 🎤 We need to curate #environments for the #people who inhabit them...thinking less about accommodating the everyday transactional interplay of people, tasks, etc. and more about enhancing #experiences throughout short-term day-in-the-life journeys (considering physical, digital, and organizational environments) as well as long-term human-to-nature interconnectedness perspectives for deeper #human (and #planetary) #flourishing. 🎤 It's through intentional, deliberate, #EudaemonicDesign efforts that occupants as well as designers/advisors can realize their #BestSelves, building up more pro-social desires, thereby being better and doing better. That's when true #transformation can occur.

#DesignResearchLabs are breeding grounds for #openexperiments and #innovation – But how does a transformative #governance of design experiments look like? What kind of #instruments can be used for #policymaking? And what are the #powerstructures, that design experiments are embedded in? Today, we are going to present our ongoing research on "Design Research Labs as an Exploratory Approach for Transformative Governance" at the #conference: Design or By Disaster (Freie Universität Bozen), which focuses on social-ecological transformations, and what design and art can contribute. https://lnkd.in/dKMFfbAk Thanks again, Dr. Andrea Augsten and Lynn Harles, for the vibrant and fruitful collaboration!

𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗥𝗔 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗔 𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗜𝗚𝗡 𝗟𝗔𝗕 𝗪𝗜𝗡𝗡𝗘𝗥 𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗧𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧: 𝗕𝗜𝗢𝗣𝗢𝗗 🐸 Did you know that #Wetlands cover only around 6% of the Earth’s land surface, but 40% of all plant and animal species live or breed in these environments? Meet BIOPOD Co., one of eight recently announced winners of our 2024 global design competition, inspired by our guiding mandate the Terra Carta, which invites students to design high-impact solutions to address the damage being done to the planet. 💧 BIOPOD features human‑scale ecosystem modules designed to remediate water quality, reintroduce vital fringe marshes into urban environments, and engage the public in citizen science. The BIOPOD system includes the pods, education and training, a digital hub, and support stations. Congratulations to the winners from Rhode Island School of Design - Co-founders Manini Banerjee and Avantika Velho, and the team of Malvika Agarwal, Skylar Perez and Joel Yong. Our upcoming volume of the Wandering Archive, a series of experimental arts and design workshops, will be a three-part series hosted by 2023-2024 After School Fellows Leyla Keskin & Vivien Tauchmann! Sessions will be held on Feb 2nd, 8th, & 16th at 15:00 UTC. "Ecological mourning and the tissues of labour: An experiential series about ecology, justice, and textiles." The three interactive sessions invite participants to explore how environmental and social justice intersect with textiles through hands-on activities. Led by Leyla Keskin and Vivien Tauchmann, with a focus on Türkiye, these sessions aim to connect participants with their ecological identity. They explore themes of labor, alienation, and justice in textile making through movement-based reflections. Our goal is to create a space for experiential learning and emotional growth, fostering awareness and collective healing against capitalist ideas of overconsumption and exhaustion. Session 1: Understanding Ecological Grief – Emotions and Pathways to Holding Space Sunday, Feb 2nd at 15:00 UTC How do we navigate the profound emotional impact of ecological loss? In this session led by Leyla Keskin, we turn towards ecological grief—the deep sadness arising from environmental degradation, species extinction, and the destruction of ecosystems. These losses not only affect the natural world but also erode our sense of identity, as the environments that shape who we are are altered or destroyed. This leads to emotional responses such as psychological stress, anxiety, depression, and a collective sense of loss. Through interactive practices and discussion, we will explore the emotional states tied to ecological loss and examine coping methods that foster connection. This session offers a reflective space to acknowledge grief, understand its psychological effects, and explore how environmental destruction and change shape our identities.
