As we mark our 5th Anniversary, the halfway point in our Terra Carta mandate to put Nature, people, planet at the heart of global value creation, the Sustainable Markets Initiative is honoured to have received a message from His Holiness the Dalai Lama. “I feel optimistic about the future. In my lifetime I have witnessed rapid changes in human attitude towards the earth, which is a hopeful sign. Today there is concerted efforts in seeking a new ecological order that focuses on environmental and ecological protection. This effort needs to continue, and I commend SMI and likeminded organizations for taking the lead.” – His Holiness, the Dalai Lama #SMITerraCarta #Nature #Sustainability

Cambridge in the UK is a global hotspot for #Science and #Innovation, home to cutting-edge research centres. And with science, technology and innovation critical to accelerating the transition to a sustainable future, we were delighted to host an exclusive ‘Seeing is Believing’ tour to Cambridge for several of our member CEOs. The tour followed the SMI’s Terra Carta Roundtables & Exhibition at Hampton Court Palace which concluded last week with a visit by His Majesty King Charles III. Our thanks to Pascal Soriot, CEO of AstraZeneca, who led a tour of the AstraZeneca Discovery Centre (DISC), the UK’s largest research and development centre; to Dr. Jan Löwe, Director of the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB), a research institute dedicated to the understanding of important biological processes in order to help solve key problems in human health; and to Prof. Rob Miller, Director of the University of Cambridge’s Whittle Laboratory, the world’s leading jet engine research laboratory developing the future of flight through the Aviation Impact Accelerator (AIA). #SMITerraCarta #SMISeeingIsBelieving

The Terra Carta Roundtables & Exhibition saw 400 CEOs, innovators and political figures convene at Hampton Court Palace to lay out the economic case for transition and continue their efforts to accelerate a sustainable future. Across two days, the splendour of the Palace played host to 25 exhibits showcasing groundbreaking innovations, 19 roundtable discussions focused on delivering system level change, and 16 plenaries exploring the business opportunity ahead, building on the trillions of dollars invested since 2020. Marking five years since His Majesty King Charles III, then Prince of Wales, founded the Sustainable Markets Initiative – the central message from the summit was clear: sustainable transition is the growth story of our time. #SMITerraCarta #TheSMI #AstraCarta The Royal Household

The Terra Carta Roundtables & Exhibition, SMI’s 5-year anniversary summit, concluded last night with a visit by His Majesty King Charles III. The summit laid out the economic case for transition. Five years ago, when he was Prince of Wales, the King launched SMI, a private sector CEO led "coalition of the willing" with the Terra Carta mandate, a roadmap to creating a sustainable future. Amid the splendour of Hampton Court Palace, His Majesty saw for himself the incredible progress that is being made, including the trillions being invested into clean energy globally. He spoke to CEOs from around the world across industry and finance and encouraged them to continue their efforts to accelerate a sustainable future. He heard from leaders of banks and investors who are committed to funding a future we can all believe in. He talked to young innovators developing the technologies of the future. If there was one message His Majesty heard loudly from SMI members, it was that investing in the transition makes business sense. It is the growth story of our time. #SMITerraCarta #TheSMI #AstraCarta The Royal Household

On the second day of the Terra Carta Roundtables & Exhibition, business leaders from the energy and finance sectors came together to explore the future of China’s Green Supply Chain. The panel addressed the challenges of the green transition in emerging markets and offered practical solutions. Key discussions focused on the vital role of innovation, both in advancing renewable energy production and in developing sustainable finance frameworks. These initiatives must be pursued alongside efforts to reduce international dependence on traditional energy sources. Decarbonising global supply chains is an urgent priority, one that requires educating stakeholders across the entire value chain and fostering long-term, global collaboration. #SMITerraCarta #TheSMI Left to right: Xu Liang, General Secretary of SMI China Council; Zoisa North-Bond, CEO of Octopus Energy Generation; Zhang Yiling, Chairman and CEO of Erdos Electric Power and Metallurgy Group; Sir Noel Quinn, Former CEO of HSBC; Fang Wenjian, General Manager of Bank of China London Branch
