✨ A Journey of Empathy: My Revelation in Patient Care ✨ Three years ago, in Albany, NY, a routine cardiac catheterization I performed left an indelible mark on my medical journey. In a surprising twist, the same patient recently contacted me in Miami for a crucial decision about her husband's cardiac surgery. This moment of reconnection, bridging years and distance, sparked a deep self-reflection in me. 🔍 Here’s the heart of the matter: 🌟 It wasn't just the procedure that mattered, but how I cared for her. 🤝 She felt seen, heard, and genuinely cared for, a bond so strong that it led her back to me. 👩⚕️ This experience underscores the profound importance of empathy in patient care. This has prompted me to ponder a critical question: How do we learn and teach the essence of genuine care? In my view, exceptional patient care goes beyond clinical outcomes; it's about nurturing a connection that deeply resonates with the patient. This interaction reaffirms my belief in the power of caring beyond medical procedures. As healthcare providers, our aim is not only to heal physically but also to offer comfort and understanding, elements that sometimes matter the most. This poignant experience has been a reminder of the lasting impact our approach can have, resonating well beyond the clinical setting. I'm committed to continually learning and growing in this aspect, reminding myself daily of the importance of true empathy in patient care. Have you had an encounter that highlighted the importance of empathy in your professional journey? Let’s share and learn from our experiences. #EmpathyInMedicine #PatientCare #HealthcareJourney #Cardiology #DoctorPatientRelationship #BeyondTheProcedure #Jyokti

I believe this is one of the qualities you possess as a physician that sets you above and beyond many of your peers in the patients’ eyes. Especially in this fast-paced, money-driven healthcare system of today, the patients just want to be seen and heard, as well as receive high-quality care. This is the part of my work that I find the most satisfying, empathizing with and listening to the patients and their individual stories. In my current job in cardiac imaging, we make an effort to take the time to listen to the patients’ concerns and explain the procedure. We form a bond, establish trust, and make them feel more at ease. Taking just a few minutes to do this can make all the difference in the world for the patient and make a lasting impact on them that we don’t even realize.

Dear Nish, I have known you for a while, you connect with everyone you get to know… everyone that talks to you gets 100% of your attention… keep being yourself, I think that’s the best way to influence your colleagues and the best way to care for your patients…

You always took time for your patients and also staff members. You never rushed patients or family and made sure their questions all were answered. Much respect......

You are one of the kindest and most memorable clinicians I have had the fortune to work with! We had such a great time at our cath lab. I have seen the bond you described on several occasions at the cath lab we worked together. The bond you build with your patient is not something that is quickly earned, but accumulates through the time. That's why I like the field of HF because of this special and strong bond and trust between the clinician and the patient. Thank you for sharing this story. I miss working with you! I am very certain that you are making differences in the life of each patient you encounter :-)

This is an awesome experience to share doc. When I was an underpaid and overworked IR tech (I’m sure many techs and nurses can relate) I was still filled with a sense of pride in the impact as a healthcare worker I could have in helping patients. Important to see the patient and not just numbers.
