↗️ Advancing on the development of #GAPPRI Volume II to tackle runway incursions - among the most persistent threats to #aviation safety ✈️. #GAPPRI is the Global Action Plan for the Prevention of Runway Incursions - a roadmap for addressing risk & instilling resilience, enabling government & industry not only to cope with increases in traffic, but also to be proactive in anticipating & addressing problems. Work on GAPPRI is jointly coordinated by the Flight Safety Foundation and EUROCONTROL in coordination with ICAO, CANSO, ACI and IATA - all collaborating closely together to reduce the risk of runway incursions through a collaborative approach involving #aircraft operators #ANSPs air navigation service providers #airports & #regulators. Last week DHMI, the Turkish 🇹🇷 ANSP, hosted 80 aviation safety experts in Istanbul to advance the development of GAPPRI Volume II, which contains guidance, explanatory materials & best practices. Due to a disagreement with engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce on the engine's longevity, Emirates withdrew from an initial agreement to purchase Airbus A350-1000 aircraft on Tuesday, depriving the European aircraft manufacturer of a significant display order for the Dubai Airshow. Tim Clark, the president of Dubai Airlines, stated that the A350-1000's engine would only provide a fourth of the time between maintenance visits compared to Emirates' demands, speaking a day after the carrier placed a $50 billion order for Boeing 777X aircraft. He informed reporters that if Rolls-Royce increased the aircraft's longevity and maintenance costs, Emirates would be willing to acquire 35 to 50 of them. 🔴 Update: Airbus statement on Flight JAL516 Airbus regrets to confirm that an A350-900 operated by Japan Airlines was involved in an accident during flight JAL516 from Sapporo New Chitose Airport to Haneda International Airport shortly after 17:47 (local time) on 02 January 2024. All 367 passengers and 12 crew members on-board evacuated the aircraft. The A350 collided with a DHC-8 aircraft at landing in Haneda. The Japanese authorities have since confirmed that sadly five of the six people on board the DHC-8 did not survive. The exact circumstances of the event are still unknown. The aircraft involved in the accident, registered under the number JA13XJ, was MSN 538, delivered to Japan Airlines from the production line on 10 November 2021. It was powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines. In line with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 13 recommendations, Airbus will provide technical assistance to the Bureau d’Enquêtes et d’Analyses (BEA) of France and to the Japan Transport Safety Board (JTSB) in charge of the investigation. For this purpose, Airbus is presently dispatching a team of specialists to assist the Authorities. Further updates will be provided as soon as consolidated information is available and Airbus is authorised to release them. These are some fascinating facts about the Indian aviation industry that are worth noting. Did you know that in December 2023, domestic air traffic handled 13.8 million passengers? However, what's truly surprising is that more than 90% of the 1.4 billion people in India have never flown in a flight. The Indian aviation industry is set to implement new regulations from June 1, 2024. However, representatives from Air India, Indigo, SpiceJet, and Vistara are all trying to push back this date by a year. The Federation of Indian Airlines has noted that before implementing the new rules, they will require 25% more pilots, which may result in the cancellation of up to 20% of flights daily. AirBaltic became the largest A220 client in Europe on Monday when it placed an additional 30 orders for Airbus A220-300 aircraft, bringing its total firm orderbook to 80 aircraft. It already has 44 A220-300s in service. Today is a big day in airBaltic history since it represents the beginning of our aspirations to run a fleet of 100 aircraft by 2030. "The Airbus A220-300 has been the cornerstone of our operations for nearly seven years and has been instrumental in the international success story of AirBaltic," stated Martin Gauss, President and CEO of AirBaltic, following the agreement's signing on the opening day of the Dubai Airshow 2023. ATC Transcript Suggests Coast Guard Dash 8 Not Cleared To Enter Runway Before Japan Airlines Crash Transcripts of the communication between the ATC and the two aircraft involved in the January 2 incident at Tokyo Haneda airport reveal that Japan Airlines’ A350 was cleared to land while the Coast Guard Dash 8 was asked to hold short of the runway. JAL was operating flight JL516 from Sapporo to Tokyo Haneda and was cleared to land on runway 34R. The Dash 8, however, was asked to “taxi to holding point C5,” an instruction which the pilots of the propellor aircraft acknowledged. Based on the transcripts, the communication seems straightforward, but only an official report will tell if there were any other gaps that may have led the Dash 8 to enter the active runway by mistake. Which Commercial Airshows Saw The Most Orders In 2023? The battle of Paris vs Dubai seems to have been a one-horse race this year, with the bi-annual Paris Air Show dwarfing the number of orders seen in the Middle East at the recent Dubai Airshow. In France, the Paris Air Show was held between June 19th and 25th, with the first four days open only to industry before three more days for the general public. Held at Paris–Le Bourget Airport (LBG), European aircraft manufacturer Airbus saw more than 800 aircraft ordered, casting a shadow on Boeing, which saw around 350 orders, in comparison to Dubai, which saw a total of 246 aircraft ordered at Boeing, versus a mere 66 for Airbus.
