Adam Laughton's Week in Healthcare (Not Spring Break for Me Edition)
In personal news, many of you probably saw my announcement earlier this week about a presentation I am giving at next month's UT Health Law Conference. I am really excited about it, and excited to be talking about a topic that could still be changing (see below) even as we are preparing and giving the presentation.
Texas Medical Board Places Emergency Abortions on Agenda for Discussion at March meeting (https://lnkd.in/g5-G4j25 see item 28). This has been a long time coming. Physicians and others in Texas have been begging TMB to issue some guidance about what actually constitutes an emergency for purposes of getting an abortion in Texas. Now it looks like they may actually be moving forward with it.
OCR Announces Investigation of Change Healthcare Attack (https://lnkd.in/gJ2tnwnj) There's really no bigger story in healthcare right now than this cyberattack, which has crippled the operations of a major insurer and plan administrator. Lots of providers going without cash flow because of it. Now OCR is opening an investigation into the attack, which is, to my knowledge, the first time something like this has occurred.
